Interesting thread as I am in the process of upgrading my vocal mic. RODE NT1a kit or MXL 770 are top of my wish list.

Songs: See footer of my post.

Mic: Esynic BM700 (less than 20 UK pounds). Using XLR and 48v phantom power (see pre below).

For singing I use a Floureon B-800 condenser microphone, a steal at $20.99 USD. In front of it is a pop screen and behind it is a Vocal Shield 1 VS-1.

For acoustic guitars I use either the above mic or a
Piezo transducer pickup, $15.99 USD

Note that I am a bottom feeder when it comes to mics smile

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Got that Floureon B-800 condenser microphone too Mario, same blue colour as well, I also have a cheap Shure dynamic mic cost around the $30 mark.

No expensive mic is going to make much of a difference as regards my vocal ability I think.

Hi Colly,

Great post! I am a singer and have had some great success with my Beyer Opus condenser mic. I use it for both live performances and in the studio. I don't have anything posted that you can listen to but I mention it to provide feedback about it. The only downside I've found about using a condenser mic is that not all systems (especially older ones) have phantom power (required for condenser mics.)

I'm enjoying reading everyone's input. Thanks again for the question.

I use my mxl-V63M for everything when recording. It is a condenser mic, so I wouldn't use it in a live situation. I got it for $50 on sale.

Here is a song that was written and recorded in one hour based on a challenge (so there was no time to properly EQ and all that stuff): http://fawm.org/songs/61265/

Recorded: Vocal/guitar together on one track and then a track each for guitar, me beating on the guitar like a conga, guitar lead, extra vocal and shaker. (maybe listen under headphones would be a good choice).

Here's a dropbox location if you have trouble with the FAWM link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/101504714/10_i-must-be-a-ghost.mp3
