Hi guys.

The craggy vocals are all mine and all instruments are BIAB. SOFTROK.STY Dreamy Soft Rock; 1901 Bass, 2036 Mando, RDs PraiseWorshipShine, 404 Guitar strumming, 1755 Mando rhythm, Tamb 8ths.

Any suggestions for BIAB are welcomed. (My hearing is not great, so it's easy for me to miss nuances, and I'm just learning about all this. Thanks.)

IN MY OLD HOMETOWN

In my old hometown, after being gone for many years
The streets still take me…
Where once a young man…
used to shift his gears

Some old stores remain
the signs and colors faded thru
They don’t recognize the older man…
At the counter… I turned into

(CHORUS)
In my old hometown, they only know, who I used to be
When living there was all knew
When leaving was the thing for me to do
But I’ve been gone too long
The past would knock me down
To the gutter with the grime and oil
From the streets of my old hometown

The old high school…, surprisingly no worse for wear
Perhaps a little small somehow…
Well the kids still fit in there
From the parking lot, of the football field,…recalling times
Hometown games and marching bands…
Graves and 10-yard marker lines

Touchdowns and cheers, letter jackets, and break-up tears
Drag races and drive-in movie shows
Friday dances and rock and roll

And I made some calls
to friends I made within the high school walls
I found some of the girls and guys
but some had moved, and some had died
some had died…

(BREAK)

And then it’s beer with the boys,
and I and find my rhythm there
It’s like I never packed my bags
to take my life and start again somewhere
And in every smile…I only see…the younger man
As we laugh about the trouble…
all of us got in back then

(CHORUS)
In my old hometown, they only know, who I used to be
When living there was all knew
When leaving was the thing…for me to do
But I’ve been gone too long
The past would knock me down
To the gutter with the grime and oil
From the streets of my old hometown

(CODA)

In my old hometown
after being gone for many years
The streets still take me…
Where once a young man…used to shift his gears.

Hi Andy A, great work! - I like the guitar phrase at 2:42, really helps bridge the gap between the vocals. Well done!

Andy,

For me this song shares the simple honest approach of your Mothers Day song. You have an eye for detail in the narrative
which keeps the story interesting and your "craggy" vocal sounds just fine.
I enjoyed my listen!

Thank you, Joe.

It's the brilliance of BIAB for the neat string turn-around there. It's amazing what BIAB comes up with. I don't know how to manipulate notes (I've tried, too many other considerations I end up ruining) so I have to regenerate tracks and throw the dice.

I love all the experts here that can really control all that. Flawless stuff.

Thank you, Robert. Yeah, I like it simple so a listener, hopefully, can get the whole song the first time.

I'd probably be in the ADD class if I were a kid now. I can't follow a song unless it's really mapped out. Take your right hand, grab the door knob, turn it to the left 98 degrees. Open door. Right foot first...
