There are so many types of scales in so many models, this is difficult to answer. Do you have a keyboard that can record midi? If so, just go into real band and create a midi track and play the scale you want to practice, then save that file as a midi, and open up in BIAB. The midi will play on the melody track. Click notation to follow along. Choose any style you want to jam with. Change all the chords to the root note, or enter the intervals I ii iii IV V vi viidim I, or anything else you like. Another option. I see you have Mac. Get Finale Notepad for Mac, free and learn how to use it. Just enter in the notes in the score, and again save as midi. Open in in BIAB (or real band) and follow previous instructions. Any book on scales will show you the different modes. Do it once and C and you BIAB let's you transpose to anything you want. https://www.finalemusic.com/products/finale-notepad/resources/As one example, I put a C scale BIAB file and a midi file in my BIAB drop box. Look for C Scale midi and BIAB C Scale practice. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y4ujowwpqh5y42t/AABnCcRP8YYL6ydXzoebe2Nza?dl=0This is a basic C major scale for guitar. Each "session" up and down is preceded by four C notes to get you started. You can change this to any style in BIAB, or change the chords over which the scale is playing, your choice. But again, there are so many scales--such as various of the minor scales, that you should get Finale Notepad, learn it (it is easy) and just make your own exercises. Hope this helps.

Here is everything that you need to know about scales and what chords you can use with them: The Free Scale Syllabus Just put some chords in BiaB and practice away.
Life is short so make sure you spend as much time as possible on the Internet arguing with strangers.

Are you looking for chord charts? There are several basic progressions, usually noted something like this: 1 1 4 4 1 1 5 5 1 1 4 4 1 1 5 1 There are hundreds of these variations. BB is the best tool I know of to actually learn progressions and how the sound, instantly. That's a standard 1-4-5 and the song is Leaning on the Everlasting Arm. 4/4 Try Key of C. About 90 bpm. Try a country shuffle, and plug into the BB interface CC CC FF FF CC CC GG GG CC CC FF FF CC CC GG CC G7 That could be called a template. Transpose for variety of Keys after getting some instruction on scale patters, root, whole whole half whole whole half octave. Start by playing basic 1-3-5 note bass guitar chord sequence, first note being 2nd string, 3rd fret. Then play e note and g note on the 3rd string. Learn to count 4/4. When you master this, you will know where the C-E-G/F-A-C/G-B-D notes are on the first position. Build on that foundation. Hope this is something like what you are looking for.

Here is a screen capture of a 1451 (repeat) e.g. "Streets of Bakersfield" or "In Heaven There ain't no beer" I post this mainly as a scale practice play along aid. I suggest playing the progression in all neck positions. On the guitar, often the 4 is right below the 1, and the 5 is right above it. Once you learn where the notes are on the neck, you might find that was the real issue all along, not so much the scale patterns. Oh, transpose the key according to personal wishes. Hope it works. Streets and Beer

Hello Islansoul, Within Band-in-a-Box there is a Scale feature! Choose your key, enter your chords and head up to the Soloist menu at the top of the program. There you will find Scales | Generate Scales or Auto Generate Scales when play pressed. Once you make your selection you will find a chromatic scale(s) on the Soloist track. Pauline PG Music Team

No, the chords are only for the scale. I just want to band in the box to be my tool to make practicing scales fun.

I thought Pauline had answered the question. What happened there? I didn't know BB had a feature like that. My point is that once you learn the 1-3-4-5-7b of the scale, in every position, (There are six or seven positions, depending on how you look at it,) and can nail the roots on time with BB backing, you are pretty well on the way. My main problem with this method is you still may not have it in your mind the notes being played,as you would by practicing with the staffs, but in time, if you know the neck, you will.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library.
