The ports have nothing to do with latency. The big thing that Apple has over Windows for DAW work is Core Audio. It's built into Mac's. Windows needs help because the built in WDM driver has like a half second latency which is horrible. To get good latency you need an ASIO driver. Most get ASIO with a good audio/midi interface but that may not be necessary. Lots of folks get good results with the free ASIO4ALL. Just google it and give it a shot.
