Hi, Does anyone know where I can find an easy introduction to HTML5.
The reason I ask is that I have a new website (purely hobbyist) where I wish to place my music and I would like to have an audio player within my page. I have placed some audio files into chirbit website (a free and unlimited audio hosting site) and would like to use HTML5 to link my files to my website. All audio files are Band-in-a-Box generated.
Any pointers would be most helpful.
Thanks George

Hi George. Here is an example of the HTML5 audio player code (it is part of HTML5) </br><audio controls="controls" width="100" height="10" preload="none"><source src= "http://www.yoursongs.com/MySongs/MySong1.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"></audio> You will need to replace the reference that I have bolded with your own path (to your song file) And you can read a little about it here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.asp

Old school HTML version I use, another option:
<object> <embed src="YourSong.mp3" autostart="false" loop="false" width="800" height="100" controller="true" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"></embed> </object>
In my case, the HTML page and the mp3 file are in the same directory so just the file name is needed and not the full path.

George, instead of having a music player on your page why not have the music player on another site and then just link to it? Or maybe that's what you mean. I use reverbnation to do that, I don't really care for that site much, but I like their music player. Just upload your music there and you can get a player widget, which is basically just a piece of code you copy from their site and embed in your own page, and bingo, you now have a music player on your own site. Check out my homepage to see it in action: http://blue-attitude.net/

Hi Dave, I had a look at your site and yes it would be easier to just copy a sites audio player. I have tried that with www.chirbit.com (it is a free hosting audio site without adverts) and I can get my audio files to play ok. I have a new website and wanted to learn about coding with HTML5 as that is what my web hosting site uses. Also it keeps my brain active. Regards George

The nice thing about pasting your own lines of HTML code whichever code snippet you use, is that you don't have to rely on another website to host your material or use their player. I like to be free of those 'tethers'.
