Ten guitars, not bad for a few Bob! some good quality makes there, I have nine myself but not worth listing as all cheapies.

I did buy a nice Washburn wd15sce a few months ago, dreadnought guitar as well, reduced from £230 to £149 on Amazon, with Fishman pickup and tuner.

Nice enough sounding guitar.

Do you find at all that the dreadnought sometimes can feel a bit uncomfortable to hold (sort of digs into chest) compared to the other popular guitar shape Grand auditorium?

My main performance guitar is the little Alvarez. The Dreads are more for recording. Except for the Martin, these are all inexpensive guitars too.

1943 Martin D-18 (Janice's cannon)
1949 Martin 00-15
1972 Martin Employee D-35
30's Regal Resonator
And I'll throw in my 1953 Kay Upright Bass

And if I had kept some very rare ones that I will not mention (breaks my heart) we could have another home smile

I've been informed by the actual owner (Penny) of the Martin that it's actually a '62. Price just went up. grin

That's really cool! I started out on a Harmony. We're going crabbing on the “Follow That Dream” bridge in Yankeetown where Elvis shot that movie next week.

It was sold through the Sears Catalog.

I got mine for my 12th birthday. My mom got it from the local music store - used - $25.

Mine looks EXACTLY like the one listed for $8.75

Bud are you serious about that collection? And they're only the ones you didn't give away? I wanna hang at your joint one day!

I made a decision a long time ago not to collect. Still have too many guitars but. I was gonna sell my Martin OM custom when I bought the Lowden custom but can't bring myself to do it. I bought the Lowden for my 50th. It was either that or a Harley Davidson like my neighbour. I'm happy with the choice and I don't have the paunch for a Harley anyway.

The ones I still own are:

Fender DG10CE acoustic
Godin A6 electric acoustic

1974 Fender Strat (I'm the original owner :P )
1994 Fender Strat
1996 PRS CE-22
2005 Fender Strat (50 anniversary special edition, I was born the same year the Strat was put into production and my wonderful wife bought it for my 50th birthday.

2016 Fender Tele, just bought it last month. The plan was to trade in one of my strats, don't really need three, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I also have a very old National lap steel, would be from the 60s. Needs some work but I plan on getting it back in shape so I can start using it for some slide stuff.

Scott, yes, I bought a PRS SE a few years back but sold it for just a little more than I paid for it. They were turning into museum pieces, and instruments should be played.

Agreed. Gits should be played. My most valuable guitar is a Taylor 414ce that I won in a drawing last summer. Very similar to my 2000 Larrivée in shape and sound. It sat around here for a bit, but now is on loan to my pastor.

Rest of my list:
Larrivée L-03
Epiphone Nighthawk Custom Reissue that I have modded to yield 13 different pickup combinations
1984 or 85 Peavey Milestone that has the T-60 style pickups in it-that one is my sons axe right now
Cheapo SX p/j bass copy that has a Seymour Duncan Basslines p pickup in it that is worth more than the bass itself
Valencia solid cedar topped classical

Not counting the first few "cheap beaters"......

My first "real" guitar was a Harmony electric. I forget the model of that guitar.

Then....

1969 Gibson SG Custom. Bought it in 1972. It was stolen from me two times. I got it back both times. I still have it and still play it.

Alverez Humming bird acoustic copy. used it a few years and sold it.

Gibson "The Paul" with some hot pickups. Nice guitar.... kept if for several years and traded it for some other things.

Ibanez Acoustic with pickup. Bought this to do a solo gig for a while. I still have this guitar and will probably never sell it because it has a broken headstock at the neck. I fixed it and it holds tune well, but no one would offer anything close to it's value.

Taylor 314. Excellent guitar. Still have this one and use it in the studio often.

Fender (MIC) Modern Tele. Nice playing guitar. I bought this to take the heavy lifting off of the old SG.

If you've seen the videos I've made, you may have noticed the Taylor of the Modern in them.

I'd love to have more guitars and more guns too but I try to restrain myself in those areas. Same thing with amps.

I've had a few nice amps but also some real wankers. I have one amp now and that's a Mesa Boogie Studio 22 and I also have a Line 6 POD2 modeling processor. Really, that's all I need to get the job done.

I'd love to hear more of that story, Herb. Pretty unusual for Lassie to find her way home even once.

Most Treasured: Takamine F-360S (built on July 4, 1974). My grandfather got it for me; he is long since passed away, but I still think of the times when he played fiddle and I attempted rhythm at Old Time Fiddler get-togethers. He was so good and I was so awful but he took me anyway. The guitar makes me think of the nursing home we went together to play at. Very good memories of making others happy.

Rest of the collection:
-Martin D-18GE
-Deneve squareneck dobro
-Fender Tele with Lollar upgrades
-Fender Strat
-Kala solid cedar top ukelele

Since a lot of people went back in time for their history, which makes it fun to see the evolution, let me do the same.

I got a no name acoustic when I was 10. I played that for a year and the next Christmas I got a Hagstrom 3 pickup. That guitar had what is still the thinnest neck I ever saw. I lost track of it for many years as it was semi abandoned in my old bass player's house, and he moved like 3 times.

That was it for about 10 years, as sports entered the picture, and then the military. When I got out I picked up some Les Paul copy mainly to play slide on. After that came a used Telecaster. It was natural wood with a white pick guard.

In 1982 I traded that Tele and $400 for a Les Paul standard. Along the way I picked up a Strat with active EMGs that may or may not have been hot for what I paid.

I retired from playing in 1994, and sold my Les Paul for $2200 and the Strat for $950. That was my "living on" money while I went to college for an associate degree in computer studies. In 1995 I was in Dallas for an MCI training class and bought a white Strat, just to get Randy California's autograph on it, as Spirit was playing some little club near where I was staying. I later added Todd Rundrgen and Sting to it. BB King and Chuck Berry refused to sign.

I then did not touch an instrument until about 2009 (and it shows). At that point I started gathering gear. A Tele here, an Ibanez there, the PRS SE, some 2nd tier stuff like a Fender Bullet, an Epiphone Dot, an Ibanes bass (a pawn shop find for $50). I was up to about 10 guitars, and I finally realized "You are not even a guitar player!!" So I started selling them off, trading for MIDI gear, etc. When I retired in 2013 I treated myself to the Les Paul I have now, as well as my Nord Electro 4 (the best Hammond you will ever hear on anything but a real Hammond), as retirement presents to myself.

So right now, the population is down to the Les Paul, the Ibanez Rio, the Applause acoustic, and that Ibanez bass. I play the Paul some on my recordings, but mainly as a placeholder until I get a real guitar player in to replace my tracks. I really have little interest in playing out live anymore. I just want to write songs, and I need to get off my generous posterior and get to work on the next CD. Lots of ideas, very little done with them.
