I tried out for an R&B band a few years ago and the leader wanted every song to sound exactly like the original. I asked why then would anyone hire us if they could get a DJ and play the record? My bands rarely played exactly like the originals and that did not stop us from getting more gigs than we could book. The fitness trainer asked me, "What kind of a squat are you accustomed to doing?"
