The problem with inputting a song in linear format is keeping track of where you are in the song.
I wanted to use repeats for verses & choruses ie simple example:

Intro, 1 verse, 1 chorus, 1 lead break, 1 chorus 1 verse, Ending

Shouldn't that be very simple to do? what am I doing wrong, I have tried everything including live help. I was told that this was a basic thing and to look at the tutorials?????

Can this actually be done with repeats because it is a nightmare on a complicated song structure.
I'm beginning to think that I must be really stupid, I am certainly very frustrated - this is not cheap software...

Welcome to the forum.

First, terminology. When you read any help files, and they refer to "a chorus", that means once through the song. For example, if the song's form is AABA, then AABA is one chorus. So just keep that in mind. We do understand your question, though. The usage here is a custom from jazz, not from singer/songwriter.

Note that your song could all be done by making one long song. You could enter the chords for the verse and chorus and the copy them to later in the song as appropriate. There is nothing wrong with doing it this way, since it gives you full and easy control over the sound by placing part markers and/or using F5 to alter the style and/or instruments at any place.

However, since you asked, to use repeats in the song form you are asking about, the only thing that repeats in your song is the verse followed by the chorus. You could do it this way:

Enter the chords in order for the intro, the first verse, the first chorus, the break, then the ending.

Change the number on the main screen that says "Start" (when you hover over, it says "bar for beginning of chorus) and change that from 1 to the first measure of your verse (probably measure 5 or 9 etc.).

Change the number for "End" (bar for end of chorus) to the last measure of your chorus.

Change the number of Choruses to 2 (from the default 3). This will cause one repeat.

Then click on the Song Settings button.
Put a checkbox for Tag Exists.
Tag Jump after bar: (put in the last measure number of your chorus).
Tag Begin at bar: (enter the measure number of the beginning of your ending).
Enter the measure number for the last measure.

That should get you pretty close. Try it and report back.

ps Yours is a pretty specific 'How To' question about BIAB. It would get more visibility in the Product Forum under BIAB for Windows (or BIAB for Mac) than here in the general Recording forum. Something to know for your next question.

I always unfold the song so it doesn't use the repeats.

I have no idea where it's at in the song if it's NOT in a linear format.

Besides, if I want to add a bridge after the second chorus, in linear form, it's easy to do and easy to see where everything sets in the big picture.

HOWEVER, be aware that in doing it like that, unfolded/linear, you are limited to total number of bars (measures) - 256.

Well, my first post mentioned to do this as one long song. But he asked how to do repeats and I answered it. Let him try it and decide for himself.

I personally use repeats nearly all of the time. I never seem to have a problem with repeats, codas, tags, etc as that's how most sheet music is already presented. Nothing wrong with unfolding though. Both ways work fine. Choose the one that fits your own workflow.

While this is true.... I have never even come close to that limit.... in fact I rarely need to beak the 100 bar threshold.

Although it's been a long wanted, and ever few years a "re-discussed" LIMFAC (just this past summer)

I have a similar but different issue. I want to make some backing music to play along to.
I am trying to enter a "set" of 3 jigs. each jig has an A and B part (repeated once). I also want to repeat each jig three times before moving on to the next jig.
If I enter linear with some of the sets I want to produce, I run into the bar limit (especially with 4-part jigs)
Is there a way to make a section repeat three times, then move on to the next section repeated three times, and then the next section repeated three times?
I do not want to play them 123,123,123 I want to play them 111,222,333. So choruses do not help.
My only other solution is to output to wav in chunks and stitch together in reaper.

Jake,

If you have a recent version of BIAB, you could use Song Form Maker to accomplish what you want.

Simply enter each A and B section for the three individual jigs, define them as A to F in the Song Form Maker and then instruct Song Form Maker the order in which these sections are to be played.

Regards,
Noel

Cant you just make the first jig, right-click the last bar and enter a repeat and tell it to repeat that part 3X then go on to the next jig and do the same thing??
The repeat option lets you tell it which bars to repeat and how many times.

Tried repeats, but it truncates the second tune off. Can't get repeats to work at all.
I have jig 1 from bars 5-20 after intro. jig 2 bars 20-36. try to put in a repeat at bar 20 and it hides jig 2.
I have version 2014 so will look at 'forms'

Using forms just re-writes out all the repeated bars as if i entered it all linear fashion, with a large set of tunes with 3 repeats I still hit the 256 bar threshold.

I too have found the use of repeats, codas etc to be hit or miss and usually wind up going linear. But, I've noticed (or think I've noticed) BiaB changes up the parts more as it goes through the choruses.

Sometimes more than others, but more than just the differences between A and B parts. The times I have noticed it, it was very appealing- like the drums in part A using a different beat the second time through.

Just a thought on how I might approach something that exceeds the max number of bars in BB .... for example that 4 part jig mentioned.

Move it to a DAW.

Plain and simple, since most DAW's don't have low limits on time or measures.... simply construct the song in BiaB as TWO different projects then export them to the DAW. Load them one at a time into the track..... load the second one and simply paste it to the end of the first one.... be sure either the end of the first one or the beginning of the second one has the proper transition and drag them together using "measure" as the snap to grid setting.... the result should be flawless and can be as long as you need.
