It happened a couple weeks ago. No one commented and likely no one noticed. The end came silently to the world. May have been all the attention to the US Presidential election or perhaps the excitement of the Cubs World Series drive. More likely, just the fact that in the daily hustle and bustle of life it was just too minor an event in the life of one small person for anyone to take notice.

What I am talking about is the closure of the web domain, www.jazzmandan.com. JMD was my connection to the world for sharing my music and my musical story. It was created some 15 years ago. Its reason and objective was always clear, simply track, document and create a record of my musical journey.

Over that years it went through several revisions / versions. In the beginning it served as a record of my music interest from an academic and instructional perspective. As I studied music theory and its application to the guitar, I used the site to log and present the material I learned.

In later years the site became the repository for my own musical recordings and video performances. It listed every music teacher, course and source of inspiration which guided and drove me along the way. It was my way to proclaim to the world regarding my guitar playing, “…you may say I can’t play, but you can never say that I didn’t play.”

They say “once on the web, always on the web.” If that is true, some day, some young musician may stumble upon the JMD archives and may find his own inspiration in what was once mine.

So you may wonder, why now?

I'd love to notify you all that I sold the website URL name "jazzmandan.com" and rights to use the "Jazzmandan" name to a company that was interested in using it for their commercial use. In fact, they really only wanted to lock the name so no one else has it and will likely not use it. Big companies will pay a fortune for having the right web presence. As a result, I am now financially secure, have quit the day job and have taken early retirement to continue to pursue my music full time.

Yes, indeed, I would love to tell you that, ...but that would not be true. grin The real reason is much less dramatic, "... it was just the right time".

So while Jazzmandan is gone, MusicStudent will carry on.

Merry Christmas to All and Happy New Year grin

Crossroads. Both exciting and scarey. But quite the necessity of living a full life.

I'm sure the influence of Jazzmandan will continue to pop up every now and then as a reminder of your journey together.

Yikes Dan, that headline freaked me out! Sorry, to hear about your website. Letting go of something you poured so much of yourself into is always a bittersweet pill to swallow.

I referred to you in a post yesterday as jazzmandan. That won't make any sense to a reader now.

Unfortunately nobody is interested in eastsideeddie.com..... Not even me. There hasn't been a web page up for 5-6 years. I just pay to keep the domain name in case I want to someday do that again.

Jazzmandan.com - can't you be reincarnated on a google drive somewhere ? I never explored your musical journey, and now it's too late : (

I've always learned a lot from your responses to my many, many questions.

You may be surprised to realize what can be found here -
https://archive.org/web/

As mentioned above; the internet never goes away .. it's usually stored somewhere

One JMD page snapshot from the past -

Good on you Dan.

In always liked that name, but Music Student is catchy too.

Actually, I've been thinking for a long time about getting rid of the 'Video' bit. It doesn't suit here so much. This might prompt me.

Most important, we've still got Dan the Man. As they say: Only the name has been changed.

That headline really grabs your attention I agree... I also gasped when I read the part about you being set for life and didn't read the next part. This whole thing has been an emotional rollercoaster!

Well, anyways, here's to a lifetime of learning!

Rharv, that is actually a blast from the past. A very old version. I click around and heard a performance of Blue Bossa by myself and George Bellas recorded in my bedroom (opps I mean my Studio).
If you don't know George - check him out.
