John's approach is definitely the easiest. It's what I usually do, too.

To elaborate a little more on what he's said... let's say you have a soloist on the Soloist track.

1. Right-click on bar 1.

2. Select Bar Settings from the choice of options that appear.

3. Mute the Soloist track.

4. Right-click on bar 30, select Bar Settings and put the Soloist track back to normal.

5. Right-click on bar 41, select Bar Settings and now mute the Soloist track again.
