Loading an existing song that is using a 3/4 style. I want to change the style to a 4/4 and BIAB loads the new style, but still pays the song in 3/4. How do I also change the song time sig to match the new style?

Thanks

pax,

One of the quirks with BIAB is that if you want to use a 4/4 style in a 3/4 song, it's necessary to load a 4/4 style to begin with and then load the 3/4 at bar 1 (using F5). This will then allow you to change to 4/4 later in the song.

Regards,
Noel

Noel I want the whole song to be 4/4. No time sig changes at all. It is an existing song. I would have thought that by juts loading a new style it would over-ride existing data?

Noel's advice is correct. You have confused me, though. Why does your post title talk about an existing tune using 3/4?

Perhaps you could start again and go slowly please; tell us exactly what you are starting with and what you want to do.

You should be able to just load the new (4/4) Style from the StylePicker. Check though that you don't have any changes made to the song through F5, there should be some form of an indicator if there is.

1) Load the existing 3/4 time song.
2) Replace the 3/4 time style with a 4/4 time style of your choice.
3) Use "save as" and a new song titleto save the song with the 4/4 time style.
4) Load the new song.
5) Press play.

@Jim...yep that's what I do (apart from the re-saving) Load the existing 3/4 tune, but I want to hear how it sounds in 4/4. But when I load the 4/4 it still plays in 3/4.

Is it the actual saving and re-opening that does it? If so, that's a bit clunky...measn I have to save several versions instead of just auditioning changes first. I guess I could do it in the style picker window using the "Use Chords Of song" option...didn't try that yet.

Because it's an existing tune with a 3/4 style.

Check that you haven't got frozen tracks?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to take a waltz (3/4) song and make it a 4/4 song. BIAB has a feature called "Strauss in a box", that was introduced a long time ago. It is used to move songs between 3/4 and 4/4. It will take a 3/4 MIDI melody and/or soloist and stretch it to 4/4. The selected style will handle the change otherwise.

Just select from the top line menu, "Melody, Edit Melody Track, Form". From there you will see the options to move from 3/4 to 4/4 and from 4/4 to 3/4.

This feature was introduced back in BIAB 2004.

Nope, no soloists. Just a straight chord tune. That's just it the selected style is NOT handling the change otherwise. TBH I really cannot understand why it is so hard to do. I would have thought simply loading a 4/4 style would, well, change it to 4/4. Apparently not haha!

Only workaround is to start again and re-enter all the chords into a new song!

Pax,

If you only have chords on the chordsheet, it's the style that determines the time signature. The chordsheet does not set it.

That you cannot hear a 4/4 style when loaded and generated, and tracks are not frozen, sounds like you might have an audio file rendering of the style playing along with the new style you load. Right-click on the Audio menu on the top tool bar and see if you can mute it.

Also, did you play around with Performance tracks? Have you loaded a midi file as the starting place for the song? Did you get this file from the internet?

Lastly, change the song to a 4/4 style. Save the song with a new name. Now open that newly named song in Realband. Does it work now?

Regards,
Noel

Nope no audio recordings. I don't do them in BIAB. I will try that last but really, that should not be necessary. What if I want to audition several styles before deciding on one? Means I would have to re-name several attempts at find a style.

I think there is something fundamentally wrong if BIAB cannot simply change the loaded RT parts with a 4/4 as determined by the style. In most other areas the STYLE is the over-riding control aspect for songs, well I was under the impression it was anyway haha!

EDIT: just for the record I did do a re-name and it still plays in 3/4 even though a 4/4 style is loaded. I might now play around with a few other 3/4 tunes and see if it is a generic issue or just related to these two styles.

ahhh, okay seems it is a problem only with the gogeter style. I have tried loading other 4/4 styles and these work fine and correctly change to 4/4. So I'll mark it as solved and, well, not really sure what the "and" is...should the gogeter style be reported?

Pax,

The problem does seem to be with the style. I loaded the demo song and it's in 3/4. The description suggests it's 4/4.

Definitely report the style. I'd freeze all the tracks in your song and send a copy of that to Support.

Regards,
Noel

This is good you have found the cause. That's why the question wasn't making sense to me. You can email your frozen file to beta@pgmusic.com and reference this thread.
