The penalty for non-commercial violation of the copyright laws is very steep - a possible maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 monetary fine. This includes sharing a file on the Internet or giving a copy of your latest CD to your brother-in-law.

If money changes hands the fine and prison term could be doubled.

I wouldn't want to risk that.
