64 (you mention) is an even number ...
also, at higher numbers that one bpm makes less difference.
You'd be hard pressed to tell 139 from 140. Even harder at 169 to 170
I'm not knocking Manning1, whatever tempo he wants is fine, I just like working in even numbers.
The fact that 139 is a prime number makes the math even tougher!
I think most music you see with a tempo will usually show an even number too.

Just makes the math easier, you get whole numbers when subdividing.

..and none of this has anything to do with laying back on the beat... I don't see the correlation there. Although I'm pretty sure you weren't talking to me on that anyway.. I'll have to recheck the thread
