Switched to ASIO Scarlett 2i2 due to on and off latency issues. It was suggested I go to ASIO as realtek driver was not the best for BB. Using realtek with MME I would get a stutter slow playback only cured with re start of my laptop.
Playback of Real tracks is great now, no more latency experienced. I would like to fix some random static noise.
The other issue is playback of the melody midi track which is now behind the Audio by a couple of bars. There was no melody latency when I used MME. Here are my settings-
Audio Drivers- Input no Output-MS wavetable Synth sound card Coyote Wavetable DXI ASIO always
On the ASIO drivers Dialogue box I have Focusrite 2.0 selected.
I installed a usb driver yesterday from Focusrite.
A reset to factory "all settings" fixes melody latency temporarily. Unchecking use VST/DX also changes the latency from a couple of bars behind to a beat behind.
On the static I have tried using with and with out my laptop power cord. I am wondering about the quality of the speaker wires.

I am getting new speaker cables-the type used for Guitars.

Guitar cables? No. If you are getting speaker cables, you want them to be balanced as well as shielded, so they don't pick up RFI. Of course, this depends on the connections on each end, and whether or not you are running them to powered (amplified) speakers. We need more detail. Still, I doubt your noise is coming from there.
Tell me more about the Focusrite driver. There are USB drivers and device drivers from Focusrite, and of the device drivers, there are 'regular' and beta drivers from them. What is your operating system, Windows 10? And exactly what drivers did you get?

No, the speakers are not powered and the ones that came with the Yamaha seem so cheap. The driver I installed is http://beta.focusrite.com/file.php?id=1276Win 10 is my OS

There is another similar thread in the last week about latency. I'll see if I can find it. The noise is almost certainly a different issue. Perhaps the beta driver doesn't work for you; that happened to me when I experimented because of crackles and pops.
Some more questions: is your Focusrite a 2nd generation unit, and what happened with the original driver?
Could you describe the noise you hear with more detail? For example, in my case it was a loud click at the start of each file (turned out to be a sample rate mismatch).

By coincidence, I just started with the 2i2 Gen2 last night. In my FocusRite account there was usb ASIO driver 4.15. No other driver. So far have only tested for real time softsynth latency with BiaB (on Win10x64), using the default buffer. None detected! No audio glitch, either (using unbalanced, but short, breakout cable to an auxiliary mini TRS jack on a small speaker.) -Ron

Maybe that other thread was me too, you suggested I get the Scarlett. It is a 1st gen and I plugged it in and set the ASIO settings in BIAB and my laptop, don't recall any prompts to install a driver so I emailed Focusrite and got a driver from them. This static is a random crackle from time to time in some songs. I played a hour show the other day and heard it maybe 6 times, I played 22 songs. Not a big issue and I doubt my audience noticed it. The melody latency would be nice for previewing song files when I don't have my horn setup. In the past I have always gone with quality wire, just believe best wire ensures quality sound.

I did a factory reset to see if the install of the driver fixed it and so far everything is in sync. Still getting the static noise, may have to live with it.

Are you sure you have clean power? Things like espresso machines and refrigerators can cause random pops.

Here's a test for you.
You get random static in playback. So.... render the song to a WAVE and see if the static is in the song or not.
If the static isn't in the song, it's a buffer still not set right. Static and crackling comes from the buffer not being able to keep up with the real time action. Usually when you're running a synth from midi. It's rare to get static from audio tracks.
My guess is it's not hardware or cable related. It's in the software, driver, buffers, latency settings. Dig deeper.

Are you using the laptop plugged in for power or are you on the battery? If it's plugged in unplug it and play it for as long as the battery lasts and see if the noise goes away. Bob

I went into preferences looking for buffer and found my latency was set to 0. I must have missed resetting it after the reset. Now at 20 so I will see how it goes when I play later. Thanks everyone for the help. Here is a early Xmas present for you guys http://bob.bmcadvies.com/biab/

The small buffer size is important to reduce while recording to avoid latency, but for playback, make the buffer larger.

Problem came back after I checked on latency setting and it was at 0 it reset itself to 20 by opening "ASIO drivers" and I did another reset to factory settings. Been getting some random latency and still some static, found the buffer setting and left it at 10, not doing any recording just playback. I am beginning to feel I am going to have to live with this ??

Give Focusrite support a crack at this (pun intended). They are skilled and fast.

I am beginning to feel I am going to have to live with this ?? You should definitely be using the ASIO driver with the 2i2 Focusrite. Check the latency setting and the buffers for both audio and midi. You might need to move the latency around until you find the sweet spot. Same thing with buffers. You want the latency low enough that you can't hear it but not so low that the system can't keep up. Same thing with the buffers. They need to be large enough to give the system a nice look ahead but not so big that they bog the system down. In the past, and on another forum site, I recall some people having 2 different settings for the buffers and latency. They wrote the numbers down until they could remember them. One set was for recording and the other set was for the playback/mixdown. However, depending on the computer, using the focusrite interface, you should be able to easily find a nice workable setting that works for either recording or playback. It might take some time to find the solution, but stick with it and you will find it.

Band-in-a-Box 2026 Video: AI Stems & Notes - split polyphonic audio into instruments and transcribe
This video demonstrates how to use the new AI-Notes feature together with the AI-Stems splitter, allowing you to select an audio file and have it separated into individual stems while transcribing each one to its own MIDI track. AI-Notes converts polyphonic audio—either full mixes or individual instruments—into MIDI that you can view in notation or play back instantly.
