That's the whole point of midi. You have full control of every individual part of a drum kit including all the percussion parts too.

I just wrote that midi can't capture the nuanced human performance you get with Real Tracks. That's true at the relatively inexpensive level we all talk about here. But if you're willing to go up the midi food chain (meaning literally thousands of dollars) midi can be very realistic. That level of cost and expertise is way above what we're talking about here.

This is also why all these digital mixers are not complete audio interfaces, no midi. If you want midi you need something like this:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XR18?product_id=%7Bproduct_id%7D&adpos=1o1&creative=55678035481&device=c&matchtype=&network=s&gclid=CJ2Pgd3d7NACFVaTfgodVdQKqw

With this your front end mixer functions are handled via a wireless tablet. This is the physical front end and the tablet is the controller part.

Same with this one:

Your mixer John is a very nice audio mixer and recorder. But for midi like Pipeline is talking about, it won't cut it.

I want to use the UFX1604 as it records direct to a USB stick or Drive, but I need something basic to record the midi without a laptop
So I can take it home drag the Audio and midi tracks into the DAW.

Maybe the same search in google?

I found a YAMAHA MDP-5 MIDI USB Recorder in the link you sent, something like that would do.

Cool! I got thinking about it after my prior post. So how would you record audio instruments (guitar, bass) and midi keyboard or drums together then get them into real band to mix them in time with each other. Can you do that? Can Real Band bring in both audio and midi to merge them? Can Real Band line up tracks if they are not in line at the moment? Can you both record your midi into that recorder while feeding it to the UFX1604 for a PA mix while also recording audio tracks (guitar, bass)? Lots of questions :-) I have no idea :-) The UFX1604 is absolutely perfect for my simple jams but maybe if you can figure it out I can invite midi players to my jams (something I never thought of before).

You would drag the midi in RealBand after the audio then :

Quote:
Edit - MIDI - Length of MIDI Music this will adjust the midi to the correct length to fit to the other tracks.

This command alters the length of the marked area of all selected tracks by the specified percentage. For example, 50% will shorten the length by half. You can use the Data Filter to determine which events are affected by this command.

This command supports floating point percentages. You can specify a length percentage as a floating-point number, such as 110.5%

Note: This command is for MIDI tracks only. This command has no effect on audio tracks.

If you want to add RealTracks to a Live performance you could drag the drum track/s in first use the ACW Audio Chord Wizard to create a tempo map and then fill in the chords of the live performance, then drag the rest of the tracks in, then the midi. Then once you save the midi it will now have the tempo map in it.

or RealBand 2016, record click track

"Can you both record your midi into that recorder while feeding it to the UFX1604 for a PA mix while also recording audio tracks (guitar, bass)?"

You would run the Stereo/Mono audio out from the midi keys/drums to the UFX1604 then you can record the audio from the drums/keys also while the Midi Recorder records the midi from their midi out port.

If you use an iPhone/Pad there is an iRig Midi Recorder

Thanks Pipeline. That's pretty interesting. I watched that whole video. Pretty powerful stuff. It would be a while before I get using that. At least if a midi key board player joins our jazz jamming group I will not be totally clued out :-) So does that mean you are all fixed up now for what you want to do? John
