My (admittedly meager) background in formally learning music was based on classical music and reading from the grand staff. I am slowly teaching myself to play from lead sheets, chord progressions, etc. However, there are still a number of musical terms that I often see reference to here, but still I don't know what they are (Hangs head sheepishly...).
So, what exactly are pushes, shots and holds? And how are they implemented/used in BIAB? Can you point to some specific examples in any of the Real TRacks or other files included with BIAB?
Thanks!

Pushes, holds, and shots are what PGMusic calls several features in BIAB. You can add Rests to that list.
Starting with "Pushes", this is simply the ability to have a chord play either an 8th beat or a 16th beat earlier than it normally would. When you put a chord on the BIAB grid, that chord will start playing on the beat. If you type a caret (^) in front of the chord, it will instead play that chord an 8th beat earlier than on the beat. If you type two carets (^^) in front of a chord, it plays a 16th beat earlier.
For "Holds", "Shots", and "Rests", this gives you the ability to specify how you want the instruments to play a chord.
A "Hold" just means what it says - Hold the chord until another chord comes along. Just keep sustaining the notes (for those instruments that can do that). Holds are implemented by using three periods after the chord (or via the chord options menu).
A "Shot" is like a "hit". Play the note and then immediately rest. A shot is implemented by using two periods after the chord (or via the chord options menu).
A "Rest" means don't play anything. A rest is implemented by using a single period after the chord (or via the chord options menu).
The cool thing about Holds, Shots, and Rests is that you can exclude instruments from them. You have to use the legacy track names to do it (Drums, Bass, Piano, Guitar, and Strings); however, if you specify a chord as say "C7..bpd", it means play a shot on the C7 chord on all instruments except what's on the bass, piano, and drums track.
This is all basically PGMusic terminology, and while pretty much intuitive, not necessarily music theory terminology.
All this is explained pretty well in both the user manual and the help system.
Hope that helps.

Right, the hardest hurdle is knowing that to find info on this, you need to look in the BIAB Help for (P)ushes.
If you haven't seen PG Music song examples of these, it might be that you have the display setting not to show them.
I think of a BIAB Push as one example of how to do syncopation, to use a standard musical term.
