Hello All!

I just received the update for BB to 2017 this week. I like the new interface and it works really well, except for this one issue: when I try to DragDrop the whole arrangement to separate tracks using "Master", it will either lock up the program (forcing me to use Task Manager to exit), or the file will be a combined WAV of all the tracks.

I use the CTRL+SHIFT+MASTER usually, but that does not work. I've checked the settings and it should work without using that key combo. My workaround is to just DragDrop each instrument separately. Not a big deal and almost as fast as doing them all at once, but I often forget and use the Master... then I have the lockup problem again or the single track.

I noticed the new beta update post, and downloaded and ran it, but it didn't help in this instance.

Has anyone else had this come up?

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Jim

I've been in contact with P G Music technical support, and have been given some advice but so far this problem persists. Very odd, since 2016 BIAB didn't have this problem.

At this point I'm going to try their latest suggestion, which is to run my BIAB 2017 from the hard drive it came on and see if that works. If so, I'll know it has to do with something during installation going wrong. If not, then I'll try to default the settings. If any of you have another idea, please let me know. This is only a minor inconvenience, but it's taking up a lot of time to troubleshoot it.

Thanks!

Jim

Are you running BIAB as Administrator?

Notice that when you drag the master to the center "X" on the dropbox, you'll get a pop-up asking what mode , Midi, wmv, etc. There's also a check box for separate files for each track. That works for me.

Try it.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it.

Matt, yes I'm using BB as administrator, but it doesn't make any difference. Thanks anyway.

Bob, yes I use that center + in DragDrop as my workaround, now. Again, thanks.

I've tried running it from the hard drive, and there is no difference. Then I defaulted everything back to factory settings... still no change. The last thing I tried was to dig out my old BB 2013 hard drive and run it. That worked fine... just like BB 2016 did before I upgraded.

Since no one else apparently has this problem, it has to be associated with my computer. So the next thing I'll try is to run BB 2017 from another computer and see what happens.

I think PG Music got tired of me, as I haven't heard back from them on the latest developments. (One bad thing about their upgrade specials being held in December... way too much other business going on during the holidays to be able to keep up with technical issues. IMO)

Anyway... thanks again. I'll update this thread if I find anything worth reporting.

Regardless of this little quirk... BIAB 2017 is sure an awesome package! Love the new interface: much more professional looking, and quite logical. I do prefer the old mixer setup, but that's a minor thing. Good job, PG Music!

Jim, running as administrator is important for other functions, if not yours. Give build 455 a try. It was released midnight last night and has tons of technical fixes.

I discovered build 455 just after I wrote that last reply, Matt. It made my reference to the mixer totally irrelevant, as it is now even better than I imagined. I especially like the ability to dock the mixer on my other monitor and save space on the BB interface. Cool!

Unfortunately, the DragDrop problem I have is still present. But as I said earlier, it appears to be related to my computer alone. Something about it is interfereing with BB 2017. I'll find it. Or just get used to the work around.

I do want to make sure you know how grateful I am to you for your comments, Matt. It's people like you and Bob which make this forum so useful and fun. Hopefully, in the future, I'll be knowlegeable enough to offer some sage advice as well.

Thanks!

Jim

Just an update for any reading this thread...

I ran BIAB 2017 from the hard drive on my other computer, an AMD desktop with 4G RAM and 2.0 GHZ processors (I think!) to check for any problems with DragDrop's MASTER+CTRL+SHIFT.

The end result was the same, however. DragDrop MASTER+CTRL+SHIFT did NOT work to give me separate WAV tracks. But using the + area in the middle of DragDrop, DID. Also, as mentioned in another thread, ESC did not work to cancel the DragDrop. It would give the yellow message prompt, but go ahead and finish the rendering process anyway.

What I did find interesting, however, is that on my desktop machine, BIAB 2013 run from the hard drive (or the installed version, also 2013) worked as expected. (Running BIAB 2013 from the hard drive also worked fine on my laptop.)

So my previous conclusion that this problem was related to my laptop only, was in error. It's not specific to my HP laptop, nor to Win 10, as the desktop is running Win 7, now.

Still waiting to hear from PG Music on anything they can discover about this. Hopefully it will all go away, soon.

Jim

Ok. Of course we're already on build 456; the fixes are coming quickly! A dozen people have viewed my report of the problem; give it some time.

By the way, my informal experiments tell me it takes more effort to drag separately, but the overall time is about the same.

When I experimented with drag and drop a couple of years ago, I found the same, too, Matt. Since then, I simply choose to render the files and then open Reaper and load them into there manually using Reaper's file explorer.

At the end of the day, drag and drop doesn't seem to appreciably shortcut the generating and saving process (which makes sense with you think about it), it simply offers a choice in procedure.

Thank you Matt, Bob, Noel, and others for your contributions to this thread and others like it. You long-time users and experts are actually a very big part of why Band In A Box is such a superb and superior accompaniment platform. You help fill in the blanks that the manuals don't always cover!

Regardless of how we may feel about our favorite way of rendering BIAB tracks to WAV (or other) files... the help and advice we recieve on this forum is appreciated.

Thank you,

Jim
