I audition styles from the Stylepicker window to avoid losing the current selected style.

In the Stylepicker window, on the right side is the option to
'Play using current chord sheet for song' It is designed to do just what your wish is.

This selection allows you to also change the tempo from a set value such as 120 bpm to the actual tempo of your song which may be 117 bpm. You have to adjust the tempo with each audition but it is still faster than loading styles into your chord sheet.

Using this option is faster than loading styles into the chord sheet and you can limit the audition to the first 4 bars if that is sufficient for you to determine if the style is what you are looking for. If you do not select the 4 bar option, the audition continues to play through your chord progression.

Sometimes I am interested in choosing a second style to switch to during my song and it is located further down into the songs. On such occasion, I will change the first 4 bars of my song to match the second style with the fast 4 bar button selected. Once I have found a suitable second style, I change the first 4 bars back to their original state. This saves several minutes of listening to multiple verses and chorus's just to audition a change.
