When you listed your gear, you didn't say what kind of interface or sound card you are using. If it's the internal sound card on the MB in the Dell, yeah, MME probably will work better. Many of the chips in the MB don't work all that well with ASIO.

If you are using a dedicated interface that supports ASIO, you will want to use ASIO.

Using the proper driver is important. BUT.... the sound chip set has to be designed to run the driver efficiently.

If you get into running a DAW with multiple tracks and especially if you use VSTi's and other kinds of midi synths, using the proper interface and driver will become a necessity. That's where MME will cause more problems than it solves and ASIO will shine.

Since MME works well for now, enjoy it and make some music.

BTW: I also have a factory Dell laptop and MME is the driver I use with BB in it. When I multitrack in the Dell, I have to switch to my Focusrite interface and use ASIO.
