I may be in the minority, but if you have a new version, might as well backup/upgrade the original (older disk) to the new version on the external drive.


An interesting idea. I have just gone through the faff of moving to a new laptop and I'm still not sure I've got everything installed. So if I had a single drive that was "the latest version" that I could install from it would make life easier.

So what's the procedure? If I've got an original drive of, say, 2015 and downloads of the upgrades for 2016 & 2017 can I make a 2017 external disk that I could install everything from at a later date, like I installed 2015 a couple of years ago.
