Hello,
I couldn't find a reference to this in the forum topics, so I'm not sure if it has been requested before or not...
Some of us do a lot of file swapping between BIAB and other music programs, which means DragDrop gets used a lot.
I'd like to suggest that an "Abort" or "Cancel" function be implemented so that if we accidentally drag the wrong instrument or possibly drag the Master to the wrong file type, that we can stop it before it goes any further.
Lately I've had some problems with DragDrop on my computer where it does not save multiple tracks using the CTRL+SHIFT+MASTER. I have not found the answer yet, but it sure would be nice to be able to stop a render from occurring if I need to, instead of waiting 3 - 5 minutes for it to finish and then just trashing all that work.
Rather than one of those "Are You Sure?" buttons popping up each time, I propose a simple key combination that will stop the rendering of a track or tracks. Like maybe a CTRL+SHIFT+X ? That way we'd only need to interrupt the procedure if we wanted to. Not just to answer the "are you sure?" question each time.
Obviously, this all assumes that there is not already something in place that I'm completely ignorant of. If there is such a thing, please let me know. I'm learning too!
Thanks,
Jim Francisco

No kidding? Esc takes you out of a render-in-progress in DragDrop? Well, that sure is good to know. Wonder why they don't document this stuff. I sure couldn't find that in the manual. Maybe because it's just so obvious to everyone but me? lol
As usual, you guys come through with the answer! Thanks, Matt and Mike!

Hey, it happens. Yesterday I asked about how to do something when the button was right in front of me. I think you are correct, this may not be documented.

Well, Matt...
I think maybe BIAB 2017 just doesn't like me. I tried using the ESC key to stop a Master render that I had begun (using the + box in the middle of DragDrop). It immediately gave me a yellow dialog box stating that it was stopping or suspending the DragDrop... then went on and completed it anyway. While it was rendering the individual tracks, the ESC no longer had an affect.
Is there a certain time into the process when you need to hit ESC for it to work? In this instance, I used ESC within a few seconds of starting the DragDrop. But, as I said, even though it gave me an acknowledgment of my ESC, it went on and did 4 out of 4 tracks.
This may be just another symptom of a partial hardware incompatibility, since the CTRL+SHIFT+MASTER combo doesn't work either.
Thanks for the advice anyway. I'm going to try installing BIAB 2017 in a desktop running WIN 7 to see how it reacts. That may give me a lot of information about what's happening here.
I'll let you all know what I come up with. Certainly, I cannot be the only one with these issues? There must be others who have BB and an HP AMD laptop.
Thanks again,
Jim

This is getting more interesting, Jim.
I tested Esc before replying, only because I knew it had worked but you never know what may have become broken in an update. I have the latest Windows 10 and the latest BIAB. I admit, I did abort soon after it started the drag 'n drop, but I know I did not get any tracks transferred to SONAR.
Also, I didn't do it like you did; I dragged the Master radio button to SONAR.
Now, we know some DAWs require keeping tracks in a 'hold' area for this to work. SONAR doesn't. What DAW are you using?
I seriously doubt an AMD processor would matter.

I use Reaper, Matt, but I'm not dragging them to Reaper's directory... I just use the default DragDrop directory within BB. So, for this purpose, the DAW doesn't really matter. I save all files as WAV's and move them to another directory as soon as they are done. This has worked flawlessly for me for years, using the same hardware I currently own.
Earlier I mentioned that I was going to try this technique with BB on another computer. Well, I did, and the ESC worked "better" but still let a track through one time and locked up BB another time.
As for the problem with CTRL+SHIFT+MASTER... that also failed to operate correctly on the other computer, which is running Win 7.
So, these two issues... both pertaining to DragDrop... occur on two separate machines running different OS's. (BTW, you're right about AMD not being the cause... I only mentioned it because some software does have problems running with AMD.)
About now, I'd really like to take my BB interface and revert back to 2016... where everything still worked.
At any rate, I've spent way too much time on this Drag n Drop issue, so I'm just going to let it go. PG Music apparently does not have an idea about this, either, as my last email to tech support went unanswered. So, thanks for trying, Matt, but I'm throwing in the towel. I'll use the workarounds I have found, but will seriously have to consider whether I will upgrade BB again in the future.

Ok, that's good detail Jim.
I wouldn't conclude anything about PG Music support just yet. This is about their only holiday. I will report this directly to the developers.
While I don't want to minimize the problem, I believe two things:
1. This may be something specific to a number of variables, since ESC does work in my case.
2. It seems extreme to disengage from BIAB over this. We're talking about something that, in my memory, has never been discussed. Worst case, you decide to abort the Drag 'n Drop and have to wait a bit, then delete a few files. I've seen worse problems to have.
Cheers.

It's one of these small annoyances that I've got used to live with. So +1 here.

That's helpful for the developers to know, especially since you and I run the same version of Windows. Cerio, how do you do a Drag 'n Drop?

Cerio, how do you do a Drag 'n Drop? Directly to the desktop (I've never seen the point on using the drop station icon). As described by James, pressing ESC gives me a yellow box stating that the DragDrop process is stopping...then went on and completed it anyway. I don't know if it's related or not, but pressing the "Cancel Rendering" button when rendering a video file crashes the program.

All good info. I did alert the developers, so let's see what happens.
James and Cerio, what build # of BIAB are you running? I'm on 456.

Matt, Cerio,
Yes, 456 here also.
I do confess that I was a little perturbed when I wrote my last post, and I let my feelings show in what I wrote. Not very professional. Sorry.
I still use BIAB 2017, I just have to do DragDrop differently. The ESC thing was your very welcome response to my question about a "cancel" for DragDrop. In actuality, I would seldom cancel it, provided it does what I expect it to: give me separate tracks in WAV format. And THAT now is a bit easier, thanks to your other suggestion, Matt, of simply always using the middle + box in DragDrop.
So... apologies to any I may have offended at PG Music. I'm still a loyal user, just a bit frustrated at times.
But, yeah, I'd still like DragDrop "Master" to work properly, and I'd still like to have a way to back out if I see it's giving me one big render instead of separate tracks.

Sounds good. I believe the setting to create separate tracks persists, so you just set it once. I'll have to check that later.
To give credit where due, that wasn't me, about the middle + box.

You're right, Matt, that was Bob Coy from another thread. Thanks, Bob, I use that trick often, now!
And, yes, the settings persist, but I still have to drop the master on to the + box, which in turn brings up the little box of choices... even if I don't need to change them. But I don't mind that. This method is still faster than rendering each track individually, which is what I was forced to do before.

As I mentioned, I don't even use the + box. Also, Noel and I agree in the other thread that it is more effort to drag tracks individually, but the time is the same.

I'll give this thread a full +1 for the consistently functional cancel request, and then another +1 for that Esc tip I too never knew about. A very useful thread overall.

Just a quick note here about the DragDrop problems...
Matt and Noel (and others) mentioned not using the DragDrop boxes at all but just going directly to the DAW folder.
In my playing around I discovered that simply dragging the "Master" to the DragDrop folder in Explorer ALWAYS produced my separate tracks, even though dragging the "Master" to the WAV box in BB, would ALWAYS produce just a single composite file, regardless of whether the CTRL-SHIFT were held down or not.
This also eliminates the need to use ESC to stop the rendering process, since that rarely works for me, either.
So, bottom line... I totally ignore the DragDrop boxes in BIAB now (making sure to have the right file settings checked), and go straight to my DragDrop folder under C:/BB. Works every time.
I'll probably change that to my Reaper Media directory sometime soon. But for now, it works just fine, and I'm liking it!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
