In 2017 and I can't find the capo thingy for the chord display. Where has it gone?

Thanks Kemmrich for pointing out this feature wasn't aware of it.

However when default key is set to C in my biab 2017 and capo at first fret chord C is then showing as B, I must be doing something wrong here.

That is how it is supposed to work. Like a capo. It is a GREAT feature!!

See if this makes sense...

I put a capo on my guitar - on fret 5.

I write a song in G - visually, anyway... a G at the 5th fret. I finish the song and it contains, let's say, 6 different chords - all of which I think of as they look as I play them on the 5th fret (with the capo).

Now, when I go to input the song into BIAB, I set the key to C - because a G played at the 5th fret with a capo is actually a C.

Enter a C at the first measure.

I set the capo to 5 - and that C becomes a G (just as I "see" it).

Now I can enter all the chords to my song - as I think of them - visually - using a capo.... G C D G Em... etc..... Otherwise, I would have to figure out what each of those chords REALLY were...

If you then remove the capo in BIAB - set it back to 0, you would see what the chord are actually... C F G C Am....

Makes sense?

Yea, Make a C bar chord at the third fret (x35553). Now put a capo on the first fret. Guitar wise that now looks like x24442 -- a "B" chord. Also note how the transpose thing shows a change of 11 half steps (semitones). Weird way to say it, but I guess that is better that -1.

Thanks very much Floyd and Kemmrich,

That definitely explains it, although I had to do a bit of a think after reading your posts to get the concept into my head.

I am very familiar with movable chords on the guitar, but was coming at it from the wrong angle if I played an open C chord then put a capo at first fret and played the same fingering of C I would get C Sharp Maj.

Does make a lot of sense the way biab does it though, as someone is more likely to try a song out on guitar first.

I think age is catching up with me smile
Thanks again.

The only reason you see the concert "C" as a guitar "B" is because your BIAB key is still C. Say I am playing a song in D, I would type in all the chords as D (D A G). Then I say, hey maybe I'll put the capo on the second fret -- the key stays at D, but the chord display becomes C F G. Once that capo is on, I would type any additional chords as if I am in the key of C (C Dm Em F G Am Bdim)

In your example you want the BIAB key to be C#! Then when you put the capo on, the chord shows as C in the chord display. Does that make more sense? Playing a B chord with capo on the first fret gives you a concert C chord.

Thanks Kevin for the further explanation. I think I have finally got it, did take a little thinking about though smile

Its just a way of visually showing the different chords shapes to use when using a capo yet have the song stay in the original key.

Thanks again to you and Floyd.
