This kind of reminds me of that Talking Heads song (forget which one, unfortunately!) where Brian Eno and David Byrne told each player in the band that the song was 5/4, or 7/4, or 3/4, and had them play all their parts separately to a click track; then just layered the results over a 4/4 drum beat and vocal line.
