I can get my Axiom 61 KB to connect to BB but the latency is completely a mess, very latent.

When I use the tools to adjust the latency so that the KB is no longer latent, or as latent then the Mid I that plays as part of a song in BB is latent...so it's a no win for me.

Some background and system info:
PC with 8GB ram, Windows 8.1 (YUK don't like 8.1)
Keyboard = Axiom 61 key newer gen
Sound card = Focusrite Safire Pro 40 (running ver 3.3 of Mix Control as it's the only one that works with Windows 8.1).

The other issue is I can't get BB to use the Pro 40 for Midi or playback of the STYLES or REAL BAND tracks instead of the onboard Midi card in the PC. Any help with this would be appreciated.

BB and RB when played back use the Pro 40 no problem, yet Midi and other play back of Styles or real band instruments does not. I would think you would want it all through the same sound card, yet it's never worked this way.

Thanks all... smile

Hi

First you need to read these two articles from BIAB about what the latency adjustments in BIAB do, or more importantly does not do as far as midi latency is concerned.

Quote from the following link
17. Why is there a delay between when I play a note on my MIDI keyboard, and when I hear the note play through my computer speakers?
You are most likely using a software synthesizer such as the Microsoft GS Wavetable or the Roland VSC as your MIDI output device. One characteristic of a software synth is that it takes some time for it to express the MIDI data it receives as sound. In other words, there is a delay between when a note is sent by Band-in-a-Box® (and other MIDI software) and when you hear the note played. This delay is called latency, and is normally a fraction of a second.
In Band-in-a-Box®, the Driver Latency setting in the Opt. | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup dialog is used to delay the notation and chord highlighting so that it is synchronized with the music during playback.

However, note that this is only a visual setting; it doesn't change the actual latency of the driver. There will still be a delay between when you strike a key on your keyboard and when you hear the note played.

For recording or playing live from an external MIDI synth, the solution is to use a MIDI Output Driver with no noticeable latency. This could be the built-in MIDI synth on your computer's internal sound card, or your external MIDI keyboard or sound module. If you prefer the sound quality of the soft synth, you can record using a no-latency driver, and switch back to the soft synth for playback when you have finished recording.

Tony,

Are you running ASIO or MME as your audio driver in BIAB?

Tony....

Sounds like you do have several issues going on.

With the Focusrite, you should be using ASIO.

Are you running 64 bits or 32 bits? I think BB is 32 so if everything else is 64 that might be part of the issue with BB not seeing the 40.

Any sound card such as the 40 should show up and be available to any music program in the machine. If it's not showing up, it's likely because the drivers are the wrong bit rate.

The Axiom connects but the driver mode is likely MME which is really, really bad for midi and yes, the latency will be off the charts.

Perhaps you can use ASIO4ALL or the WASPI driver to get lower latency.

regarding windows 8... man I hated it too. I had to get a new work laptop and it came with W8 and I couldn't figure out how to open a simple program. So a google search turned up a program that would give me a functional desktop like Windows 7. I installed it and haven't had a problem since trying to find and open programs and other computer chores.

Win 8.1 has an option to 'set' the desktop to be the one we all know and....errrm...like, and it can be set to start in this option. So you don't have to be stuck with the 'Metro' interface if you don't like it ( and many didn't like it)

Google or search Youtube for how to change it...it's easy but I just can't remember how to do it.... age is so unhelpful at times. laugh
