I taught my students the minor pentatonic scales using a simple blues pattern. Say we set up a 12 bar blues pattern in the key of A. Put each chord in one measure like this A-A-A-A-D-D-A-A-E7-D-A-E7. Note that you add any extension you want to any chord, i.e. A7, D9, E13 etc. Now play the Am Pent scale over each chord. Then the Am pent over A, Dm pent over D, etc. First practice each pent scale then mix things up to make a blues song. My students really like this approach and learned the pent scales very fast.

Then we got into some theory were the Am pent chord was the same as the C major pent chord, but that is a topic for another time.

I hope this helps.
