This was a really great watch Mike - thanks for sharing. I liked how he used the waveforms and audio examples. You know it really made me think how the more things change in music the more they essentially remain the same. It's great he's using current songs because it's easier for young writers to relate to what they're hearing on the radio. And for the more mature among us, it's so cool to see these same building blocks - everything he's mentioning (including the "secret" ingredient) have been used in songs we grew up listening to on the radio and have been taught to songwriters. Of course learning is one thing - pulling it off is another. grin But both the learning and trying is so much fun.

Caaron you might also like the taxi independent a&r channel on youtube. There are some gems in the songwriting episodes. For example Ralph Murphy's been deconstructing hit songs and analyzing the charts for years.
