Runnin' Down The Wind

©2016 Robert Randall Burke

Well, I'm haulin' through Virginia
Got the devil on my tail
If I ain't real careful
Just might end up in jail
If they ask you where I am
I'll be runnin' down the wind.

Ain't lookin to get famous
I'm just a drivin' man
Look out for the Troopers
It's catch-me-if-you-can
If they ask you where I am
I'm runnin' down the wind.

Cruisin' North
The darkness is my friend
Got the pedal to the metal
And I'm runnin' down the wind.

Regards,

Bob

Hi Bob.

Another country classic.

That needs to be played in my car for the full driving effect. With 4G data on my phone and the Soundcloud app bluetoothed to the car audio ....

Isn't technology wonderful (when it works).

Hope you're keeping well.

ROG.

Cool tune.

I enjoy watching the show Moonshiners. This could be used on that show.

Funny that's the first think I thought of when listening to the song

Great song. Excellent write, mix, arrangement and choice of instruments. The performance was spot on. Enjoyed this a lot.

A side note: Were he still with us today, by a display of a horse drawn wagon with a moonshine still as cargo, my uncle, Bill Ford, would errily but authentically resemble your SoundCloud photo.

He was more into homemade wine from the various grape varieties here on the farm, but I'd bet there was probably a moonshine recipe in his repertoire.

Essentially, it's a show about moonshiners in VA, NC, SC, and La. Still plying their trade in the hills and back country. There was actually a few shows, and the first one was centered around the ones in VA...in a little town called Gretna, between Danville and Lynchburg Va. . They were typical rednecks and I think one of them got busted and went to prison for making shine. He had set up a storefront operation as a cover to sell shine out of the back room. There was actually 2 or 3 episodes of the show detailing his plans...and they showed the store from the front street. They weren't the brightest bunch of boys.

The show I see occasionally is a bit more refined and one of the moonshiners has actually gone legit and set up a legal operation. In the last episode, 2 of the shiner's took a batch to Nashville, stashed it in the woods in an old abandoned house and went to see the customer. They pulled into a gated community and went to a really nice house. The owner was Ed King of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame. They were selling the shine in bulk for $500 a gallon. In it's time slot, it's just about the only interesting show on the cable at that time. And yes, Ed agreed to buy the entire lot at that price per gallon. A cool, tax free, $30k deal.

Charlie,

Thanks for the kind words. Distilling has always been problematic in this country. The first rebellion was The Whiskey Rebellion in Carlilse Pa. Washington actually led a force against it. Show of force was all it took. grin
