RealBand has a nifty feature to "save all tracks to individual WAV or MID file". (Render, Save all tracks ...). The MIDI files of each track, created in BIAB 2017, however are saved in up to 5 channels in the .MID file - and when importing these into another DAW etc it is necssry ro combine them all again into a single track (eg bass, piano etc). Is there a setup that can render these MIDI tracks from RB to a single channel using this function. I have been unable to locate anything specific in the manual (pg 262) or videos. Thank you
When I use the Save All Tracks to file I get an individual file for each track, including MIDI. Maybe try the command to 'Make all BB tracks regular tracks' first. There is also an optional check box in Prefs File tab to Rechannel all MIDI data on a given track to a single MIDI channel when saving. Hovering over this option gives a popup that explains it. It will then use whatever MIDI channel the track is assigned to. In my image I am forcing it to channel 4. Selecting zero leaves it unchanged.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!
Thank you Pipeline for making this clearer. What I have noticed (?) is that the "Save As.." saves the MIDI tracks but not both the MIDI and the audio tracks (Realtracks)in seperate files whereas the "Save tracks to individual files..." saves both MIDI and audio at once (in seperate files).
Is it not possible to save the MIDI and audio tracks using "Save tracks to individual files.." into individual MIDI files that contain combined channels? i.e if the MIDI tracks are saved and opened in another sequencer then all the data from each track is available within single discrete tracks - just like the audio (my apologies if my MIDI terminology is lacking in trying to explain - this may mean a MIDI 101 course for me!)
Using "Save As...." twice or more(once for the MIDI tracks and once for the audio tracks) is not an issue but I am just curious about the two options. Thank you
rharv - thank you as well. The "make all tracks regular BB tracks" does not change the way the file is saved - it still separates into 5 channels in a differnt sequencer. If .MID is chosen then all the tracks are saved (merged) into one file. If Type 0 is chosen then the a single BB track is saved (but is split into several channels).
I will repeat the above with "Prefs File tab to Rechannel all MIDI data on a given track to a single MIDI channel when saving" as suggested.
I have rechanelled using Options, Prefs, "Automatically Rechannel..." in the File tab of Prefs. I still find the channels seperated. Thanks for the assistance. In the interim I will drag and drop each channel onto a single instrument track in the DAW.
Sorry I'm a bit lost here, so you want all the instruments on the same track and channel ? EDIT: If I import/drag a multi channel midi file into a Reaper track I just Route it to MS or CoolSoft Synth to play. I I want to add individual VSTi's to each instrument the I import/drag in individual midi instruments to separate tracks.
Hi Pipeline - at least you know I'm lost - I've only just figured I'm lost and the map is gone:).
I am trying to import each individual BB MIDI track (bass, guitar, strings, piano etc) into it's own separate Cubase Instrument Track without it becoming 5 separate channels within the Cubase Instrument Track.
This is after I have done some changes/additions etc in RB and saved the individual RB track files. The audio is easy - drag the saved file into a Cubase stereo audio track and all's fine.
Reaper seems to work a bit differently as it asks if you want the MIDI file on one track and combines the 5 channels. I will try Reaper as you have mentioned and report back. Thank you.
(I would still like to do everything in RB but still need some time to get one or two VSTi plugins sorted out to add guitar parts using the S-gear amp sim and try and get IR's of acoustic guitars and amp cabinets working - the IR's of instruments is something new to me but works the same as amp cabinet and reverb IR's).
In your Cubase Preferences > Midi Import settings un-check Auto Dissolve Format 0 (Midi Type 0) In RealBand save as Midi Type 0. Also in Cubse Project > Project Settings > Bar Offset 2
Sorry, yes it took a while to work out, so you just needed it like Reaper ask "Do you want to split to separate tracks or leave on the one". "Dissolve" they worded that good ! why not "Split to Separate Tracks" &#@^#^ ????????????????
Hi all Yes I must agree funny term The main thing to keep in mind is there are 2 types of midi file .
Type 0 is one Track containing up to 16 separate instruments on 16 separate channels.
Type 1 is 16 tracks with each instrument on its own track going to any of the 16 channels. Normally to keep thing simple I send track 1 to ch 1, track 2 to ch 2 Not forgetting to keep ch 10 for drums of course.
Some software allows you to choose which type of midi to save but not always, Yamaha keyboards always save midi as type 0
Again you sometime get a choice when opening a type 0 midi in a daw sometimes not
Sona atomatically splits a type 0 midi to separate tracks on opening But you can save as 0 or 1.
Cubase ask if you want to dissolve a type 0 midi file
And various other terms in other software split etc.
The good thing is most software will open either type including Yamaha Keyboards
So basically what I am saying is if there is a choice of what type to save as. Try to save as the type most useful to the application and options available to you, in the program you intend to open it in. . Myself I always save as Type 1 if I can, as I like separate tracks / channels for each instrument. Have fun Mike
