Is this something similar to Audio Chord Wizard output, except somebody has already created the chords and timing?

If I'm not mistaken, iRealPro has a ton of songs (chords only, for legal sharing) because users entered them into their format and made them available on their website.
BIAB is a little different; there are BIAB-formatted songs to be found on the Internet, just not on the company website.
There are also perhaps more standards than you may think already shipped as demo songs with BIAB; they just have no melody and use a fake name to avoid copyright problems. Once you play them, you should be able to identify from the chord progression what the original song was, and rename it.
And then there are public domain songs versus those still under protection from copyright (in the USA, anyway) ...

Once you get used to BIAB, it doesn't take long to enter songs at all, whether you use them for practice or performance. Go to www.jazzstudies.us for a ton of songs. Chords,no melodies.

Jazzstudies.us is a realy great site. I guess my question is: Why can't we have those same chords to choose from from inside Band-in-a-Box. Are there legal implications?

Note's site has BiaB discs that cover many fake books: http://nortonmusic.com/Just load a file and the chords are exactly like what is the fake book. It even uses a BiaB style that loads with the song. You might want to look at them.

Jazzstudies.us is a realy great site. I guess my question is: Why can't we have those same chords to choose from from inside Band-ion-a-Box. Are there legal implications? PG Music chooses not to maintain an archive of copyrighted songs, however there are many sources available on the internet. One of the most popular is the ++ Yahoo Band-in-a-Box Group ++. The group has two sub groups that are used only to archive song files. ++ HERE ++ is another Yahoo song file sharing group. An internet search will bring up several sites where people have PG Music song files. As previously mentioned, user Bob Norton offers midi only PG Music song files that support many fake books. He also offers many unique styles and his site is well worth a visit. ++ HERE ++ is a link to his site. I use to search for and collect song files but I don't look for them as much as before for a couple of reasons. Many of the song files available for download are out-of-date and do not represent the current capability of Band-in-a-Box. Sometimes the song file is not based on a familiar version of a song. Sometimes the file creator is extremely creative a creates a version of a song that is unlike any prior version of the song. Many times it is difficult to determine what the song file represents based on the file title. Last, as others have noted, it doesn't take that long to create a song file from scratch once you get a little familiar with Band-in-a-Box and the available styles, RealTracks, Midi SuperTracks, loops, soft synths and other tools.

There are also perhaps more standards than you may think already shipped as demo songs with BIAB... A lot of the Style Demo songs are precisely this, they just have a new melody to avoid rights issues.

Hi - thanks
A lot of people are trying to help me solve a problem, seemingly, but I posted this in the forum "Band-in-a-Box Wishlist". I don't have a problem, that needs to be solved. I just propose a new feature. And I wish it could be implemented.

Lol...yes, that does tend to happen around this enthusiastic group that is the BBox Forums. We see an idea that we find interesting, start talking about it further... and then just run away with it!

I don't know if this would pertain to what you you want. I have about 1500 standards in a BIAB folder, that I've entered in over the years. I just click F3 and choose my song folder then the song I want. If you want I can post whatever tunes you want, assuming I have it. When I can get to my PC I'll try to post a list of what I have.

It's very kind of you, but I don't use Band-in-a-Box as a musician. This may sound strange to you, I know. My small company is the distributor for BiaB in Denmark. I'm just posting suggestions from users/customers, that don't speak English that well.

I have a couple of archives from the web with close to 9000 songs. There are usually many 'duplicates', some with very interesting variations, or key signatures. Song picker will make short work of creating a list and it is easy to select and load any one of them.
As has been said, they are usually built with old styles, but the chords and the melody are still the same. Choose your own style or instruments and away you go.

What's the best way to send song files to someone in this forum? It seems like the only files one can send in a post here are .jpg, pdf.

Ray,
The forums have pretty strict rules about not sharing copyright material. These would potentially affect anything with melodies and/or lyrics unless the songs are in the realm of public domain.

If I share files, I generally upload to my DropBox account, then PM the person and provide them a link to download.

I seem to recall years ago that PGM decided not to do this maybe because it's skirting the legal line. Consider, chords alone are OK and song titles alone are OK but if you combine them? Not sure about that. You as a company provide the chords to Witchcraft and also name it Witchcraft?
I also have IRealPro and they specifically say that as a company they can't do that. All the songs on their forum are user created. I don't see the legal distinction since they own the forum but whatever, that's their decision.
Even without a melody the chords with the name doesn't smell right to me. As a keyboard player I see this all the time with patches emulating famous named instruments like a Rhodes piano. They call it a tine piano or for a Wurly they call it a reed piano, a Hammond B3 is a tonewheel organ. It's the same with guitars too. SampleTank has tons of guitars but they don't use the name Fender or Gibson, they use tele or ES5 or something. Trademark and copyright are not exactly the same thing but they sure are similar.

PGM have always used a similar concept, using Style names like: =CHUK_B.STY EltonPno.STY I don't have a problem with it at all .

IReal Pro has this feature, and I see no reason why Band-in-a-Box should not have it? http://www.irealpro.com/ Note's site has BiaB discs that cover many fake books: http://nortonmusic.com/Just load a file and the chords are exactly like what is the fake book. It even uses a BiaB style that loads with the song. You might want to look at them. MarioD alludes to why Biab should not necessarily build a database of Biab sgu standard song files in a Songpicker window. A much more massive database than anything Biab could ever compile already exists. It is accessible and can be filtered by the User to their specific choice of genre or individual song choices. This huge, diverse database consists of nothing more than the lowly MIDI File... Biab has an automatic feature that loading a MIDI File decodes the file and imports the Key signature, tempo and chord chart. It will also import lyrics and a Melody line if they exist in the file. It decodes and imports this information as quickly as doing a SongPicker search, selection and load of a Biab SGU file. Imagine the years it would take to compile a list of Biab SGU songs that would equal the quantity of MIDI Files that exist. New MIDI Files are added to the internet daily and there are numerous sites that will create a MIDI File for whatever version of a commercial release you wish. Charlie

The extraction of chords from midi files is not that great when you're talking about jazz standards because those chords are complex. Simpler styles like country, rock, blues are easy for the program, jazz isn't. Remember, chord info is not part of the midi standard so Biab is making educated guesses as to what the chords are and many times it guesses wrong.
The best way to compile a library of jazz standard Biab songs is to find them somewhere in the internet whether free or buying them from Norton Music.
