To add to Noel's suggestion, you can push a chord an 8th or a 16th note to the left; however, you then can't have a different chord on the beat immediately following the pushed chord. So if you push the chord for beat three to the left to beat 2 1/2, your next chord will have to be beat 4, since you've already used the slot for beat 3 with the pushed chord.
