Well, I finally got the 12 year old Roland Guitar Synth (GR-20) which is built into my Fender Strat set up and linked it up to BIAB via midi into the computer midi/audio interface. The sound goes through the mixer and into the midi/audio interface on the computer as well. All still working fine, although the 3 way switch on the Fender Strat that allows you to switch between synth, guitar or play both sounds together, now sometimes bleeds the guitar sound into the synth only setting. Luckily, it seemed to be getting better the more I played. Certainly, my playing must have improved as the synth sounds (which are very good) seemed to sound more authentic than I remembered. No tracking issues either.
Anyway, BIAB questions. The first time I recorded midi it worked but there was no playback of BIAB as I recorded. It played back the (Albiet random) midi ok though so BIAB was recording midi fine. After the first time I could hear BIAB simultaneously, so I guess it was nothing important. Probably just a gremlin. What is consistent is that the guitar synth appears to be
out of tune with BIAB. I find it hard to believe that Roland doesn't follow 440 standard. Is BIAB set differently? Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this issue with external synths?
Early days, so no doubt there will be a few other questions. On the whole I'm very pleased as it sounded great with BIAB - a very big sound without any guitar or guitar effects yet. (The Roland guitar synth can play guitar at the same time or via a normal guitar jack - it has a special connection for the midi.)
