I would have sworn I've seen a post in the RB forum about using EZDrummer, now can't find it.
I'm a BIAB newbie and an even newbier newbie at RB - at the moment I've been creating rough demos in BIAB, playing around with arrangement and styles, then dumping everything in to Reaper for editing, fx etc.
But I've read numerous posts saying that RB is a powerful DAW-esque program (albeit with a few warts), so I've been trying it out the last couple of days, and it'd be great if I could get closer to the sound I'm aiming for before moving everything into my DAW.
I'm able to add Amplitube 4 and some other plugins, for example to the bass and guitar tracks. But I'm unable to add either Ezdrummer or EastWest's Play (both of which of course work fine standalone or in Reaper). I've read the help file etc and haven't quite been able to pinpoint where the problem might be.
'Re-Route MIDI playback to default DXi/VSTi synth' is *not* checked. I have RB 2017, build 4 with jbridge, and I'm on 64-bit Windows 10.
I can double-click an RB track or hit the little arrow at the left and then click Edit VST/DX' At the next screen I hit "Open VST/DX Plugins Configuration", which pulls up the DirectX/VST Window for, say, the Drums track. Say it's Track 10. The top Plugin window will say None. Click on the top pulldown, scroll down to Add VST, then go to the folder holding EZdrummer.dll.
Selecting EZdrummer.dll, however, does nothing. After a second or two the DirectX/VST Window is as it was - top plugin window still says None.
I've noticed this for EZDrummer and EastWest Play so far,
Thank you in advance!

You need more than the initial release of 2016, you'll want the last update if you are running 2016. Jeff didn't add this timing support for some VSTi's until mid year or so of 2016.
Otherwise it should work. Is it possible you are not clicking on the correct dll? Is what you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version of the plugin?
If it is 64 bit you may need JBridge also. It allows 64 bit VSTs in RB and BiaB. It's like $10 here on this site.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Thanks for the comments - I'm using RealBand 2017 (5) and I do have JBridge; Amplitube 4 and some other 64-bit plugins work fine, it's just EZdrummer and EastWest Play that I haven't been able to get working. Pretty sure I'm not clicking on the wrong plugin; it's the same plugins in the same folder that I've been using in Reaper and Sonar for a while.
I can't set the tracks to MIDI, get an error message, 'Can't change track type of a BB Midi track, BB audio track, or BB RealTrack' (most of the tracks were made in BIAB and are RealTracks).
I'll check out ReWired in Reaper tho!

OK, so basically the track has to be a Midi track to add certain plugins?
I can add Amplitube 4 to any track. Haven't been able to add anything to RealTracks.
When I add EZDrummer to an empty track and bang on the drums or something, I only hear music out of one side of my headphone - is this normal or am I overlooking something?

"OK, so basically the track has to be a Midi track to add certain plugins?" yes it's different to REAPER, yes sus out that ReWire VST, it is suppose to be implemented soon in RB & BB but who knows when ??
"Haven't been able to add anything to RealTracks." are you using the Direct Input RealTracks with Amplitube ?

You can get those little ear syringes from the drug store, it might be just 1 ear that is blocked, lol no, not sure what is happening there, is it just the drums or all coming through on 1 channel, it's not panned in EZD mixer, the midi track is not panned, headphones working ok on other apps ?

Are you using the Direct Input RealTracks with Amplitube ? Sorry, I see my post was about as clear as mud. The tracks are standard RealTracks recorded in BIAB. I then opened the song in RB. I can add Amplitube 4 (for example) to any RealTracks, but can't add it to any MIDI tracks (I get an error: VST Plugin not loaded, either due to canceling or loading a non VSTi-DLL) I can't add *EZDrummer or Play* to any RealTrack. I can't convert any Realtracks to MIDI. (I get an error: Can't change track type of BB MIDI track, BB Audio track or BB Real Track) This isn't a deal breaker, as I can simply due what I've been doing - dump the individual WAV files into a DAW and work on 'em there. But it would be nice to be able to do it in RB directly.

I believe for MIDI tracks, you have to load effects into slots 2, 3, or 4, as slot 1 is reserved for an instrument (VSTi or DXi).

Personally... I would say, if you are very comfortable working in Reaper or any other DAW for that matter, I'd keep using what you are comfortable using unless you're simply trying to learn a new DAW.
Real Band is catching up to where it probably needs to be to be competitive with the other big names out there but it still has to go a ways further IMHO. I'm old school. Since I know how to get the job done in Sonar, I don't take the time to set down and learn a new DAW. However, I do love and use RB for it's track generation capabilities.
I export the raw waves to Sonar and do all my editing and mixing in Sonar. I don't try to tweeze anything in RB. IMHO... why bother? Do it all in one place, your final mix DAW.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I think the main thing with working in RB you have multiriffs, so no matter how far you are into a song you can still change pieces you don't like rather than having to go back to RB, load a mixdown from the daw into RB to generate up the bits you want to change or new pieces you want to add, like if you decide it will sound good to mute the other instruments and have a bit of piano at the end of that second chorus. Unlike REAPER, Sonar will only operate as a ReWire Master, so you can't have a MultiRiff playing in RB to a section of Sonar's track. With the ReWire VST in RB you can do this with REAPER or other DAWs that will ReWire either way. http://www.energy-xt.com/index.php?id=0115the free version of the ReWireVST works enough to use with RB, if you load it into a midi track it will show you in it's drop down what apps you have that will slave to RB, so you will have a solid stable DAW to load as many VSTs as you like but have multiriffs to add to any section of the DAW while it's playing in sync to RB that has no load on it to cause any crashes. I suggested a way to do MultiRiffs in Biab when it gets ReWire implemented http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=378682
