I currently have a computer set up specifically for music including BIAB 2009.5 everything pak copied from ext hard drive to computers hard disk along with Sonar. Windows XP. No internet connection. All is good. I'm interested in purchasing a new computer that I will be using for internet, Microsoft Office and some music related software (general home office use). As a keyboard player most of the music stuff loaded would be software to tweak and store keyboard settings for varios boards. Mostly utility software for keyboards. I was thinking of also using this computer for BIAB but running off the small external hard drive provided by PG Music. Would like the fleibilty of having BIAB on both computers. Although most of my recording and songwriting would be done on the "music computer", can anyone offer suggestions in regards to processor ( dual or Quad), ram (3-4 gig) and hard drive space needed for good results on this new computer. In regards to souncards, does anyone use the Echo Mia midi or can suggest an M-audio equivalent. I will continue to use XP pro as I have had good luck with this OS. Presently thinking of a custom build and not the Dell/Hp route. I would like better control over software and hardware than the ready made companies offer. Any response appreciated

Hi,
I know some recording studios set "turn key" computers for audio only. Aside of my laptop which I only use for outside field action, I have one desk computer with triple separate OS installed in a 500 GB hard disk ( I make a full backup of this main hard disk) In partition A I have Windows Xp32(x86) SP3 as my main " for everything" OS, it contain all I need for a daily basis working on audio, browsing and office related task. This system work so great in a 97% (because any OS is perfect) all the time. I have Band in a box, all Real Tracks/Drums, Real Band and packs, lot of audio/MIDI software (in two separate 500 GB hard disk) which I use in professional and home recording enviroment absolutly flawless. In Partition B there is another Windows XP 32(x86) SP3 devoted exclusively to audio professional for my studio commercial activities, there are also some very basic applications for home and basic internet use which IMO are a must and necessary even in devoted audio PC enviroments because many audio and musical applications need of the internet online interactivity for updates, upgrades, hardware and device drivers revision, libraries and many more. In partion C is Windows 7 64bits which I am testing for 64 bits audio applications only. Operative Systems for Audio, including internet onboard, will not suffer any kind of damage or badfunction risk if users maintain an healthy and secure use of internet and periodical system maintenance routines. Sometimes I have been in half an unexpected problem which has been almost impossible of solving quickly without internet in the same computer/OS . Of course there are different point of views, but I consider a second PC without internet is a bit a waste of money and resources.

"Purist", would exclaim "OMG, he's got waayy too much on one machine...he should have a custome music blah blah...maybe two or three...He's putting all his eggs in one basket, no matter how many partitions....we fortell DOOM - DOOM - DOOM!!"
Of course, I don't agree, Carlos...any approach you take is OK by me
And, of course, if you're working in a pro music studio, I suppose they have ways to back your productions up, also.
Wish my computer was set up like yours.
BTW every time I visit your webpage there are more and more "views" and great comments about your TOTAL TALENT, both composing and playing. Not to mention you are the number one purveyor of things BIAB!!
