Thanks for the reply. I did all of that stuff previously when I was having another occurrence of the SoundCard-Error4 messages every time I would start or stop a song. That went away with a reinstall. I didn't have the wherewithal to go through all of that because I had a deadline to meet. I assembled the saved MIDI scraps in Reaper via drag-n-drop, exported the medley as a single-track Type0 (because it was 60 tracks and PT only handles 48), loaded that into PT, switched to DAW plugin mode, and attached the last song in the medley (MIDI file) as a drag-n-drop. That all worked.

And---today, everything works again! I'm guessing that some previous operation I did with the computer blocked access to an area of RAM that PT depends upon. So . . . although a restart didn't work, a system reboot looks like it would have solved my problems. Something I must remember in the future.
