I'm a good sight reader, but that comes from many years with a classical music background, and having worked not just in my own bands but as a fill in musician for other bands on many occasions. I wouldn't want to lose that skill.

If you wanted to work in a band or as a session musician I would think the ability to be a good sight reader would be a very worthwhile advantage.

I also don't understand that when it comes to sight reading why a horn player benefits differently to a guitar player?
