Yep I have it and I also have FTP and a couple GK solutions and a few others.

If you want to get into a real polyphonic MIDI guitar inexpensively this is it ($100) MG2 is it.

FTP, is even better but at $400 (and please don't lose the USB receiver FOB) but the Jam Origins MIDI Guitar 2 is very, very good.

As you can see it tracks really well and is polyphonic (i.e., you can play chords and not just one note lines) just like FTP, GK, YRG, and other solutions .

Only real disadvantage, is lack of ability to map different strings and fret zones to different sounds like you can with FTP, GK and other solutions using hex pickups or other trigger mech's that at least knwo WHICH string is being played. It is simply 100% pitch to MIDI across entire guitar so an open string A cannot be differentiated from an A on 5th fret on low E string

But other than that it's very very comparable to FTP.

LARRY

PS if you already have a wireless guitar transmitter your MIDI Guitar 2 is just as "wireless" as the FTP grin !

PPS - to clarify to those who do not know: the synth sounds you can use are only limited to those you HAVE as plugins or the external MIDI gear you have. If all you have is Coyote wavetable that's all you have. IF you have Coyote Forte or TTS-1 or Dim Pro or BIAB Hi-Q Sforzando that's all you'll be able to use (like any another Host).

If you have full Kontakt and every lib, and ST3, and Vienna Strings, Omnisphere 2, E-W orch, Roland Integra 7, Korg Oasis, Yama Montage, etc. you can use those as well.

Bottomline what you CAN hear is 100% dependent on WHAT you OWN and have installed or can access via external MIDI. (yes you can play external MIDI hardware)

this applies to FTP as well - you are NOT limited to what Fishman provides as 'lite versions' of supplied plugins

Larry, will this work with wav tracks. As an example what if I have a guitar track already recorded can I run that track through MIDI guitar 2 or must all input come from an outside source?

Thanx in advance for your time.

Mario,

Great question! I'm really looking forward to Larry's answer.

It took me awhile to figure out FTP is +++ Fishman Triple Play +++ and YRG is Inspired Instrument's +++ YouRock (midi) Guitar (Controller) +++.

Actually I've never tried it but there is nothing in design to prevent it.

just have to be able to get your wav AUDIO routed to the ASIO & audio input(s) that MG 2 sees.

How well it works should be just as good as playing live (but I'm simply assuming) because PITCH is PITCH (as long as it's not overly compressed, noisy, etc.)

you can download the free trail and try it

UPDATE

while not exactly what you were talking about I cranked up rack, played some canned sequences (in XV-5080 push-to-play phasre preview DITTO Integar 7 Push to play and Montage MIDI sequences - and fed that AUDIO into PC via my FW-41O and yep the sounds coming in trigger the MG2.

But I didn't really expect they would not, since I bring in the guitar audio that way!

I've had a long day with the "customer" (and I'm suppose to be retired) and trying to feed a pre-recorded guitar (or ANY) audio file out of PC and bring it right back in (or "across" to MG2) to feed MG2 is eluding me right now so maybe after a scotch.

Before this falls off the page I thought I might add some additional information for future searchers.

Kenny Wilson over on the Cakewalk forums has posted on applying MG2 to a recorded track.

From his post:
"This file was done in SONAR , I took a Joe Pass Virtuoso track called All The Tings You Are and placed it into SONAR ...
The I placed MIDI -Guitar on the track as an effect / synth enabled ...
I pulled up Strum Acoustic set the track to record and as the Pass track played MIDI Guitar triggered the Strum Acoustic VST in real time ....
This is what I got ...I did not edit this file in any way ...the only thing I did was to pan Joe to one side and the strum acoustic to the other side ...
to be perfectly honest if I edited this I could make it sound a lot better ...the thing is unedited you can really see and hear how close MIDI Guitar had gotten on its own
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13311064 "

++Cakewalk++ post #7

I can confirm that this works equally as well on a Mac/Logic Pro X as it does in Sonar. Additionally, I have two Brian Moore guitars with RMC 13-pin pickups and a Roland GR30 synth (still touted as one of the best for MIDI conversion) and MG2 is much better at pitch to MIDI.
