I have created a three chorus song. I created a D.S. al Fine on the last chorus pointing to four additional bars at the end. I want this Fine ending to Ritard. I have tried going to bar settings and entering a -10% tempo reduction in each of the bars, hoping for a gradual ritard until the end of the Fine. My problem is that the reduction does not apply only to those bars, but to the whole song. Help !

It might be easier to expand to one big chorus and then put the bar setting at the location you need.

Wes,

Welcome to the forums.

When you went into 'Bar Settings', did you set the chorus number to 3? This option is at the top of the 'Bar Settings' dialogue window (see image below).

Like Dave, I'm a supporter of unfolded songs. I like the linear layout where the song starts at bar 1 and ends at (say) bar 96 rather than using multiple choruses or repeats, etc. Using this approach, I find that I have much more control over part markers and bar settings.

The option to 'Unfold' multiple choruses into 1 long chorus is under "Edit | Song form".

Regards,
Noel

Thank you for all the ideas. Yes I did set the chorus to 3. Didn't seem to make any difference. As also suggested, I usually DO make one long song without repeats. Next time (later today), I will expand this song and see if I can get the bar setting for tempo decrease to work that way.

As an experiment I think I'll try the unfold 'trick' too !

Just butting in cos I was on here anyway. I;m newish to the biab too and I gave up with 3 choruses and trying to get the ends to work out. I ALWAYS now make choruses as 1, and write the whole thing out. Its a bit time consuming but copy and paste helps. The real bonus is that ritard endings are easy done that way. I use my BTs in performance where ritards are common and often necessary for dramatis.
Say you want a song thats at 90bpm to end at bar 90 with a nice long held chord but want the ritard to start at bar86 so by the time you get to bar90 its nice and slow.
Example. First thing, extend number of bars to say 96. Then at bar86 use F5 to make the tempo say 81, then F5 bar87 to be say72, F5 bar88 64. bar89 56, bar 90 50. Now make that last chord in Bar90 X(yr chord)...
itll play your ritard and then at 90 play the held chord until it fades away or until it hits bar96 where it will try and play a 4 bar end. Snip that off in your DAW afterwards.

hope it helps

I was able to have functioning ritard by making just one long chorus and slowing down the bars at the end (3) by 10% in each bar gave me what I was looking for. I also tried the unfold as described in a previous reply. I had a curious thing happen. 1 It DID unfold and that was fine. However when playing it back to check out the correctness of my chords, turn arounds, etc ....It was playing something wrong. I erased the bars with problems and re-entered the correct chords ...the bad sound was still there. I noticed that MELODY (on the mixer) was ON ...I an 99 44/100% sure that I did nothing with MELODY. I muted it and my song was fine. Scratching my head!

Expand it to one big chorus ( as BB calls it) and do what you want to the ending.

That's the easiest way to get it done.
