I think I'm going to give SoundCloud a whirl for a trial period. I uploaded 5 of my 'chillout' type of tracks to it. What's cool is that users can leave comments about the songs right on the song waveform timeline. Click the link in my signature if you want to check it out.

I want to see if the playback is smooth for users. One thing I've noticed is that in the upload process it perhaps is putting a short click at the beginning of each track, which doesn't really exist in the track.

Seems like a pretty cool hosting site

cost?
can't leave comment on site without logging in .. at least I didn't see how

that just may be a click at the beginning from their player. I like how you can slide the locator around on the waveform pretty smoothly.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

rharv,

There's various cost levels. I'm trying the free version which allows up to 5 uploads a month for a maximum of 10 tracks at a time. I like the play tally and the ability to comment at a particular location on other folks tracks.

Also, supposedly there's player widget that you can imbed on other sites that gives a smaller version of the waveform thing. I haven't tried that yet - though that's how I first found out about it - clicking on another person's track on their blog post.

Scott, so what do you think after using it for a few days? I just got an email from SoundCloud today with info on the new Lite service. The pricing is pretty reasonable, but I'm not sure if it's worth it for me since I can already host my music on my own domain.

Ronnie,

I haven't yet tried the player widgets on my webpage. If they are as easy as it seems, then it might be worth it. I see that it could be a cool way to manage a blog with song play capability on it.

I really like the comment feedback on the waveform. It's a great way to collect comments specifically at certain points in a track, rather than keeping track of the time segments, and writing comments to an artist with time references.

I see nobody that has played my songs has commented - which means one or more of the following:

1. They don't like the music and are just being nice about it.
2. They haven't joined SoundCloud free version and can't comment.
3. There is not time to comment

So, I'll just use the free account version for now and see what happens - see if somehow through SoundCloud association one of the tracks goes 'viral'.

Hi Scott,

I listened to portions of all five songs. No glitches. Your sound is superb. I like the "Langsanner Bitte" the best.

A lot of people on the IDM forum embed soundcloud in their signatures. It seems to work well for them.
