It would be nice to be able to modify some of the default song settings then save the modified settings as user defaults.
Specifically I would like to be able to change the default settings for: tempo, the bar number for end of chorus, the number of choruses and song key.
Concurrently, it would be helpful to have the capability to set the "unfold to 1 chorus" feature as a default.
As Matt indicated in another post, a song can be created and then saved for later use as a song template but that is a workaround. I'd rather to have the capability to change the defaults.

Hi Jim. What is the rationale for changing defaults unless every song you write is going to have the same tempo, number of bars and key? As it is now, it only takes a click or two to change any of those actions. Having one chorus to start with would be good. Most of my songs have more than three choruses or one long unfolded chorus.

I begin almost everyone of my song projects by unfolding to one big chorus with the chorus starting on bar 5. The chorus has an 8 bar "A" section, 8 bar "B" section and 4 bar outro. While the program defaults to"C" most of my projects end up in "E". Other music tools I use default to a 120 BPM tempo.
As you mentioned, having one chorus would be useful. Others may find having different tempo or key signature defaults useful. My song project starting point differs consistently from the program defaults. The same may be true for other users.

Additionally, a lot of applications let you make various setting changes and then save them as templates. It would really be nice to have a list of both PGMusic created and user created templates from which to choose. That way, I could have ballad template laid out a certain way, maybe even with my style filters already prepopulated so I start out seeing styles appropriate to ballads, perhaps already loaded with a default style name to get started, with the standard frame of the song already mapped out (for example, a 16 bar chorus, followed by a 16 bar verse, another 16 bar chorus followed by a 16 bar verse, then an 8 bar bar bridge, then another 16 bar chorus ane verse, then into the ending. Tempo set to 90; key of Am; melody, soloist, and thru already set to standard instruments; frequently used VSTi's or even VST's already loaded into the appropriate slots; etc.
This is different than saving songs with these settings to use as templates, because if you use a song, then make changes, then go to save those changes, it doesn't view it anymore as a "first time save" and can overwrite your template. There should be an explicit "save as template" and "load template" command.
I'm sure users would be happy to chime in on the things that should be able to be saved as a template.
Just a thought, and it gives you more than just a single default starting point.

Right; Save should be blocked if a song is a template type, forcing a Save As.
