So, the third song in the roundup of my BIAB catalogue so far - 'My Little Girl' ( https://soundcloud.com/russell-moore-485872794/my-little-girl) was another song written in the period around 1989-92, this time by my band mate from the time, Michael Cunningham*, although I'll claim a credit for the bridge, lol... This was the first song that I tried working on after buying BIAB UltraPAK last Christmas (2016), after a break from music for about 15+ years and my first experience of Real Tracks. It's basically a straight out-of-the-box Real Band country or bluegrass style (I can't remember which) plus added guitar, synth pad, vocals and the little cymbal splashes in the chorus. The great thing about using the Real Band style was that it includes things (e.g. the little fiddle 'chugs') that would be outside of my knowledge and appreciation of country music and so I would never have put in otherwise, but they're great! The 'keen of ear' might discern the little guitar distortion on the main fiddle solo - it's the rocker in me, I just couldn't help myself - but I think this ties it all back a bit to the original hooligan madness of the song from all those years ago. Hope you like it and, as always, I look forward to reading your comments and feedback. I guess I'd better write a brand new song next.... (*Michael continues to write and play around Belfast, Northern Ireland and you can hear his music at https://soundcloud.com/ichaelcunningham/tracks)

Super upbeat and fun sounding! I hope you do write some new songs. I'm super curious to see what you'd come up with after such a long break. Fifteen years is a long stretch of time. Lots to write about I am sure!
Cheers, Ember

So, the third song in the roundup of my BIAB catalogue so far - 'My Little Girl' ( https://soundcloud.com/russell-moore-485872794/my-little-girl) was another song written in the period around 1989-92, this time by my band mate from the time, Michael Cunningham*, although I'll claim a credit for the bridge, lol... Sounds great, Russell! Welcome to the community of people who use BIAB to write music! (If this is a belated greeting, it's only because I haven't been on the forum much lately.) This was the first song that I tried working on after buying BIAB UltraPAK last Christmas (2016), after a break from music for about 15+ years and my first experience of Real Tracks. yeah, BIAB eases the transition between years of not playing music and getting reconnected to that primal urge to make music! Good choice! There are lots of music-making programs out there, but I think you chose the best one... It's basically a straight out-of-the-box Real Band country or bluegrass style (I can't remember which) plus added guitar, synth pad, vocals and the little cymbal splashes in the chorus. The great thing about using the Real Band style was that it includes things (e.g. the little fiddle 'chugs') that would be outside of my knowledge and appreciation of country music and so I would never have put in otherwise, but they're great! indeed, using a whole style (as opposed to mixing and matching various tracks) can result in added synergy sometimes! The 'keen of ear' might discern the little guitar distortion on the main fiddle solo - it's the rocker in me, I just couldn't help myself - but I think this ties it all back a bit to the original hooligan madness of the song from all those years ago.
If that fiddle solo was the result of a single generation, I'd have to give you (and PGMusic) a big thumbs up! It sounded awesome! And you can add my name to the list of people who liked the distortion you added to the fiddle! Hope you like it and, as always, I look forward to reading your comments and feedback. I guess I'd better write a brand new song next.... yes, I enjoyed it! Looking forward to hearing more

Hi guys, thanks for all the kind words Pat, further to your comment about the solo, the part - all of the track in fact - IS the result of a single generation but, as I said in a previous post, what I do is bring the tracks into my DAW software and then edit them to fit what I want from the song better. For example, while the bass and drums are usually fine, you might find that one or 2 of the horn or keyboard phrases are better used throughout the song than others (which are then deleted and binned) and, out of a whole song's-worth of solo track, you pretty much have to cut it up bar by bar and almost re-write the solo using the shorter phrases to end up with the very best 8 bars-worth, although you can add some of the other bits during the end-of-song playout mayhem. For me, and I guess it's the frustrated producer in me, this post-BIAB editing & mixing piece is probably what I enjoy most, but it's BIAB that replaces the tedium of having to actually arrange & rehearse a real band in the first place and, actually, gives me access to far better musicians than I could ever hope to find locally. I wish I had this kit 30 years ago when I was young and pretty, lol...

Nice catchy toe-tapper!! Really like the harmonies, and that fiddle is SWEET! Again, I think the vocals could come up a few db in the mix. Good stuff! Take care. Greg
