Hi,

is it somehow possible to export Real Tracks as Midi file? I would love to use the Bass-Pattern of an arrangement ... so my plan was to export it as Midi, Import it into Logic... so I could change the pattern a bit... is this possible? I cannot find the option, was trying to get it out of videos and tutorials but... no.. frown

Most of the RealTracks have what is called RealCharts, which are a notated representation of the RealTrack. It won't be exact, and many of the RealCharts were transcribed after the fact. But you can save RealCharts when you export BIAB to MIDI (it's a checkbox, at least in the Windows version, I presume also in the Mac version).

From there, you load it into a DAW and change any notes you want; however, if you are expecting to then play those changes using the RealTrack, that isn't going to work, because RealTracks don't respond to any MIDI changes. They are pre-recorded phrases and don't follow MIDI or notation.

The RealChart is there to help you visualize what is going on. Or you can use it as a basis for creating a MIDI track, perhaps using a high quality VSTi instrument, but the RealTrack isn't going to play those changes.

Hope that made sense.

In the RealTrack Preferences, there is a check box to export RealCharts with Midi file, then Save As Midi.
You can also drag the track to the DROP MID.

@JFord: Thank you for your answer. yeah, the plan was to use the Arrangements of BIAB, export them as Midi, edit them and use my own Audio Units. Another advantage would be to get the chance to change the tempo during the song ( a "real" musician picks up the tempo during the chorus)... this far I only managed to Midi the Drum Track... the Bass would be the most important for me frown...

@pipeline: Thank you as well, I tried your proposal, unfortunately it did not work out frown. It keeps creating real tracks, no matter what I do frown

When you look at the BIAB main screen (after you've loaded the style you want), look to see if there is a Green underline for the RealTracks tracks. That indicates that there is a corresponding RealChart. If there is no green line (not all RealTracks have it), then there is not corresponding RealChart. As Pipeline and I indicated, you have to enable that in the MIDI export settings, however.

And again, for many of the instruments, the MIDI RealChart is only an approximation of what was actually played, and being MIDI, will not sound exactly like the RealTrack.

Actually no because those Mac Band in a Box Real Tracks are audio files ( take a look in that folder ) and there is no known application that i know about these days that can convert audio to midi.

More than +25 years ago there was a programme i had ( Studio Vision from Opcode Systems, Inc. founded in 1985 ) that tried but was not successful. That programme made a guess but there was far too much editing involved to make it worth wasting time trying the conversion especially when working with chords.

OK, thank´s a lot guys. Well, BIAB itself is a great tool and can do magic. And it´s good to use. On the other hand, I always love it to "play around" a bit (with tempo and so on, as I mentioned, a "real musician" would always pick up the tempo in the Chorus because that´s what musicians would do....) ... yesterday I was playing around with the real track Audio files and Logic´s own "Flex pitch" ... unfortunately the Quality got a bit down while trying.

For the Drum´s I always use EZDrummer, I play the Keyboards myself. BIAB is a really good tool for the Bass, Guitar, the Lead and so on, most of all the Bass smile. The last thing I´m goin to try is to Import the Bass line into Melodyne .. generally it should be possible to edit the Bass line there a bit/save it as Midi.. but am not so sure about that.

Bitty that it´s still impossible to save audio´s as midi. I was thinking the Programm is "playing" the notes so it should know, what it is playing smile ... but... OK.

Thank you all for your help anyway

it´s called "popbal" - dreamy guitar pop ballad... don´t know a "number" or so... OK, only the piano is underlined and contains "real charts"... looks like I picked the only style with no Bass-Real-Chart ... smile my bad...

Yes, just find one you like with a RealChart midi by filtering in the RT Picker.

And to expound upon the image Pipeline posted, in the "Chart" column, "N" means there is notation associated with that RealTrack; "Gt" means there is both notation and guitar tablature associated with that RealTrack.

Quote:
To see which instruments have RealCharts, visit the Assign RealTracks to Tracks dialog and sort column 11, “Chart.” Instruments with an “N” or “Gt” in this column have RealCharts.

  • Instruments with “Gt” in the Chart column have RealCharts with accurate guitar tab and on-screen guitar fretboard display.
  • If the instrument is Acoustic Piano and there is an “N” in the Chart column, the instrument has a Jazz piano RealChart. RealTracks piano parts that are on the piano track will appear with the right and left hands split in notation.
  • The various other instruments with an “N” (Pedal Steel, Slide Guitar, Resophonic, Trumpet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax) have RealCharts in standard notation.

At the top of the screen, if a track has RealTracks, but is NOT a RealCharts track, then the track name is green.

Real Instrument charts: If a track has a RealChart, the track name is green and underlined with a short line.
RealGuitar charts: If a track has RealChart, and is a guitar track with accurate tab and on-screen guitar fretboard display, then it is green and underlined with a long line.

Hello guys,

I digging here a little. Just would like to thank all of you guys for the help and sharing your knowledge.

Well, in the end, after trying a lot of things I´ve decided to stick to the audio tracks and use Logic X "Flex Time" function to serv my purpose and use the "real chart/Midi" function only on the drums smile. In this way it´s more realistic, just as you mentioned smile

So thank you all!

You can also change tempo in BIAB by using the Bar Settings feature (F5). Just adjust the bass/guitar tracks to match the chorus etc. in Logic. You could then compare the result to Logis's flex time.

Thanks this thread has provided valuable information for me as well. I tend to look specifically for midi instruments within BIAB if that's what I want to open in Logic. Usually I find something. I'd be extremely reluctant to start playing with flextime etc in Logic to shape Realtracks.

If using a custom midi file, remember you have to freeze the track before exporting to get around a glitch currently in the system. I started a thread about it down below in the Mac forum.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
