Very interesting but I have no idea how close he is to original singers.
I haven't lost all of my marbles but there is a small hole in the bag someplace!

Pretty spot on. He has an arsenal of good reverb effects he's using and he may be combining his vocals similar to the other active thread in this forum, The wonders of Autotune.

Funny - but in pop and rock those effects make a world of difference - some experienced people on our website can just hear and kind of know what's on the voice - I don't have that level of experience with use of effects, and would love some presets that get the sound on his voice for some of these impressions.

they were all good! I still want to know what kind of vocal processing power is helping him get "the sound"
One of my past bands played Highway Star by Deep Purple... I'm kind of surprised he went back that far! (but he nailed it!)

Most of his "sound" is his vocal technique. Yes there is delay and reverb, but he's very good at mimicking. Pay attention to how he has to shape his mouth differently for each of the singers.

Pay attention to how he has to shape his mouth differently for each of the singers. without a doubt he's a good mimic, but I'm not so sure that's the whole enchilada. The other clip that spanned a variety of genre seemed more obvious in the use of such things as gender tweaking and fattening up (or thinning out) certain frequencies to achieve the unique sound of the different vocalists. Things like length of vocal chords or shape of the sinus cavity can't be behaviorally imitated the way vowel sounds and inflections can. I'd guess that by now hardware and software vocal processors must be able to morph the more subtle variables that affect the sound of a voice

I had always hoped that effects could improve my voice could be as well as they seem to improve the sound of my guitar. While I'm more than happy with what the effects do for my guitar, I believe the technology has a long way to go to helping my voice sound close to what this guy is doing... I would love to hear him both with and without the effects - no doubt in my mind they are both very important - but with the vocals coming first of course.

I asked what he used, and here's his definitive reply: It varies but mainly it's just a plate reverb which I make in space designer (logic pro) and halford has an echo on some words and I think I used ensemble at roughly 15% mix on some of the tracks (for depth) but that's it! so it's basically what Scott said... more mimic than music software
