Even if you are running from the external hard drive, you still need to do a minimal installation. You should find the main installer program in the root folder of the external hard drive. You should run that and you'll be presented with options to either run from the external drive or run from your machine. The installation utility will install the fonts, the DirectX Plugins, Sforzando and Coyote WT, the included PDF driver (if you desire), etc. Then, once everything is installed, I don't think the installer creates a shortcut, so you'll need to do so, but it's the main BIAB program in the BB folder, not the one in the root folder (I think it's BBW.EXE, but I'm not in front of my machine right now). Likewise, create a shortcut for RealBand. Be sure to set them to run as administrator.

You'll need to make sure that your external hard drive always connects with the same drive letter, or things won't work. Also, once you get BIAB and RealBand up and running, you'll need to go specify where the RealTracks/RealDrums are (it will probably prompt you), as well as tell it about your audio and MIDI ports and driver configuration.
