I am going to have a new DAW built and I need some input from the experts. I am going to have a computer with 2 user profiles one for home and one for the studio. Give me your input.

difficult to advise without knowing budget.
i saw a nice i7 system recently with 12 gigs ram for 900 buks.
make sure you use hard drives with 32 mb cache..

7200 rpm ones are 70 buks.

I'm going to use my existing keyboard/mouse/monitor. It was my under standing the Window Xp 32bit could only use a max of 4 GB of Ram, Is there really a different detween IDE drives and SATA drives in speed? Feel free to spec a computer for me. I am not a computer builder. Thanks.

$700 - $900 I am try to get what you experts would build if you had the chance. I don't want a starter/over the counter machine. I want to build a pro DAW.

prolly in that price range.
phenom 2 quad processor lotsa ram.
plus two 7200 rpm drives with 32 mb cache.
if you can swing some extra money i7 920 intel processor..
same drives.
i found a deal for 990 buks on a i7 system with 12 gigs of ram for
995 buks for example.

if you want systems built by a pro audio daw builder..
as used by touring acts etc (but pricy of course..)
www.adkproaudio.com
the reason i like these systems is proper TI firewire chipsets
and other good stuff.

or for ultra budget (can do 80 traks)
get a used refurbed with warranty dual core amd processor
system for 140 buks.
add a 7200 rpm 32 mb cache drive to record to for 70 buks.
n more ram. total around 250 buks.
but an i7 will trounce it handily for plug in power.

question...before buying.
in any song whats the max no of traks you would have n
max no of plug ins ?? any resource hogging plug ins ??

i dont think frankly its worth building ones own systems.
i can do it...but not worth my time.
but if ya wanna see lotsa builds check the threads
at gearslutz.com
god bless.
