Great White (Soundcloud link)

Great White
c.2017 Bob Buford

Fun little surf rock song inspired by Xtra Styles 3 PAK, POP Category, Bigwave.sty. I grew up loving the Ventures, Beach Boys and all the surf music, though I was totally landlocked and miles from anything resembling a surfable wave. Still those magical guitar sounds inspired me to work on my guitar chops way back then.

I used a Fender Subsonic Telecaster for the lead guitar run through a Johnson J Station set to a maxed-out vibrato preset. BIAB tracks were output to Reaper and guitar added along with the scary buoy bell. Swim faster!
Some fun, boy!

Enjoy,
Bob

Sharks definitely know how to survive. I'd be surprised if humans make it on the planet for those many millions of years. I love shark movies and specials. Awesome, powerful creatures, eh?

I enjoyed this Bob. You snared me with the intro... very creative. Then that great driving melody kept my attention all the way. Nice playing!

All the best with the contest smile

Totally agree. In this particular STYLE they just ride the cymbals mercilessly from start to finish. I know "busy" drums were part of the style back then, but these bugged me. I even went on YouTube to listen to some Ventures and others to compare. Drums back then were as busy, but not so "brittle." Not sure what that is, but we did a remix a few days later that toned it down to tolerable by EQ'ing highs down on the drums. Unfortunately I had already submitted the original song with the STYLE intact.

Thanks for listening and commenting,
Bob smile

Thanks, Jon. I know what you mean. I have to listen to "Walk Don't Run" now and then to remember how motivated it used to make me. Still does. And I still LOVE those Beach Boy harmonies.

Thanks for listening,
Bob grin
