Hi,
For the most part the MIDI chord generation in Realband works well. I have a few MIDI files where it is off by a measure and have been trying to work out how to correct this.
For example, in measure 2 the generated chord is A and measure 3 is A, measure 4 is E, etc. But when the MIDI is played it actually is measure 2 and 3 are E and measure 4 is A. This repeats through the rest of the song.
The help for the Custom Chord Wizard states that if you select a region the chord generation will be restricted to the selected region. I tried that to see if it would make a difference. But when I highlight a region and then attempt to right click to be able to bring up the Custom Chord, (or Auto) Wizard the selection is cleared. I don't see any difference in the generated chords after I get to the associated option and apply it, so I can't tell if the the generation was attempted for the selection or not.
I found a mention for the audio chord wizard about setting the first measure, but I don't see a corresponding option.
How can I get the MIDI generated chords to be properly sync'd when I run into this problem? I would prefer to not have to manually correct this a chord at a time.
I've done different searches in the forums and so far have not found an answer. If this is already addressed somewhere just point me in the right direction.
Thanks, Burt

You have to do some hand fine tuning. The more instruments in the file the more complex it becomes for the program to interpret. You may think it should be an A but analysis of all the instruments suggests something else.

Also, since the chords are only displayed for the first and third beat of the measure, sometimes the timing of the chord change can affect results
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Yes,
I've seen that complexity factor in some cases, and along the way the analysis generates some "odd" chords.
But this particular song is pretty simple.
Bass, 2 pianos, and drums. With a sax for the melody/vocal track.
The sax track doesn't start until a few measures after the pianos, so there isn't much going on at the start.
Thanks, Burt

The problem is with the chord voicings and bass. Open the lead sheet window for the piano and see what is actually there. It's pretty rare for even a basic rock and roll or country tune to have the piano playing simple triads with a root in the bass. A chart that you're familiar with might show a Em7 but the lead sheet actually has a quick b9 #9 movement. If you have two chording instruments like piano and guitar, that just compounds the problem. Just a few major 7th or other passing notes will totally throw off the chord recognition then combine that with a non root bass and you can see some crazy chords. You could have the piano playing a basic Am7/E but the guitar is playing that plus a passing Bb. The program might call that a Emb5sus or something. If you want it right, all you can do is use the automatic chord recognition as a basic road map and edit it yourself.

Thanks,
I was kind of figuring that I will need to manually edit it, but thought it was at least worth checking to see if there were any suggestions for how to tweak settings.
Most of the sequences will auto-generate reasonably well, but as you point out certain combinations will cause some strange chords to be generated based on the notes that are being played. I can live with that, and it is pretty easy to edit those cases.
The ones that are more annoying is where the chords are correct, but they are shifted by a measure all the way thought the entire song. That was what I was hoping to find an easier way to work around, but I guess it will be just go through measure by measure and manually edit.

Hi Burt,
RealBand is very versatile. You can say highlight all the chord table and "Cut" checking the Chord Symbols Box in the Cut Panel and unchecking all the others. Now you can reposition your cursor to one Bar earlier or later than required and "Paste". The Chord Symbols will be repositioned,
It is worth trying a Right Click in the Chord Window and selecting the Custom Chord Wizard which can be used to vary the way in which the chords will be interpreted.
