Hi Ed, have you tried to download with Firefox and its add-on DownThemAll? Worked very smoothly on my end.

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Mike

Whenever you get a corrupted file. Clear the CACHE before re-downloading.

You are using the downloadManager in Band-in-a-Box? Does it give you an error message when it tries to install a file, or if not how do you know that the file is corrupt. Or does it just say incomplete? - in that case, you should be able to resume the download. Set your computer so it doesn't go into a sleep mode, in case that is interfering. You might also try setting the maximum simultaneous downloads to 1 and see if that works any better for you (default is 4)

I've had the same issue. I know it's corrupt because Firefox says "failed" in the download dropdown and in my dl directory it says it's a PART file whatever that means. I never use any download manager, I just grab each file and dl it. A clue might be the files show a substantial size like 1.3 gigs or whatever so maybe the whole file downloaded but the last little bit was blocked or something.

During testing when it was especially bad, I did everything suggested from clearing the cache to using a different browser and changing dl directories. I managed to finally get everything and sometimes it only took a second try but others it's a struggle like 4 or 5 times as Ed said. This is the first time this has happened since we started downloading stuff years ago.

The only major thing that has changed is my switch to Win 10 last summer so it could be related to that.

I have given up on Firefox for downloading large files. Try installing and using Chrome as it seems to do downloads better!

Thanks everyone, I am using Chrome, the DL manager doesn't work for me, the files just sit there at 1% for sometimes 7 hours. I don't know what else to do, I choose the DL option instead of the HD because I live in Mexico and I would never receive it, theft in the mail system is very bad. I'm still trying but no luck so far.

Try clearing out your browser's cache, because it may be trying to use the first 1% which has been already downloaded to save you some download time, but it's corrupt so the browser just hangs there doing nothing. Another option is to use a 3rd party download manager like JDownloader, it's free and works really well. It's what I used to download the files when I did a complete reinstall.

I have a 100Mbit, Optic Fiber connection, and even with Free Download Manager properly installed and functioning in Chrome, from the 74 downloaded files the UltraPlusPak is made of, 18 were corrupted.

But got everything up and running after download those again.

Perhaps the servers are overworked?

I just bought BIAB 2017 in a 3 DVD physical box. All went well for the first two DVDs.

However, on number 3, Windows 7 said that the installer exe file is corrupt.

Has anyone else seen this

Hi Roger D,

Welcome to the forum! Your problem reads as though DVD-3 is damaged. I would contact PG Music support using the Live Help button on the top, left of every page.

It is difficult, if not impossible to tell how many people have experienced a similiar issue since PG Music offers multiple distribution methods.

Roger, since your problem is added on the end of an old thread about bad downloads, your question might not be widely seen. You might consider starting a new thread. I would not have even read this if Ed weren't a friend.

I get my BIAB via external USB drive, so I can't speak to the DVD version, but I haven't read any other complaints about it.

Oh, and Welcome to the forum. Good luck!

Hi

All good advice
Some points I would like to add - is that once you have uninstalled the old file -

1. Do a computer disc clean
2. Then shutdown the computer and reboot
3. Clean the CD before installing

I have had the odd occasion when it stayed in the memory and also it doesn't take much to smear the CD sometimes not visible to the naked eye which can throw the reader

These sort of annoying problems sometimes come back to simple answers

Downloads are all about the browser and OS. My post in this thread was last December. After my problems someone told me to forget Firefox and use Edge. I did that and everything went smooth as silk. As a test after I used Edge, I went back to FF (and made sure it was up to date) and got one failure after another.

The problem with all this browser advice is things change on an hourly basis it seems. That's why everybody gets nagged to death about security updates. In the modern world you must do those updates imho even though they also cause you to jump through hoops when it comes to stuff like this.

When you have a download failure again just keep changing browsers until you find one that works and understand it may not work next week. Next week another one may work, and so it goes.

And I'll say it again, if you don't have Win 10, get it. With all that's going on if you're using the internet for anything, you need the latest and greatest.

This is an interesting thread. I have Win 10 and I keep my Internet computer updated. However I use FireFox and I have had no problems with downloads. I do turn off Defender with I DL so maybe that is the difference? Don't know. The problems with PCs is there are millions of configurations out there and each one is different. It is impossible to test for all of those. YMMV

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

I'm the same as Mario when it comes to downloading. I only ever use Firefox, and have never had an issue, including some extremely large files from PGM.

I also use Firefox to download the PG Music files, and I don't even have to turn off Windows Defender or Malwarebytes Pro first.
