Should work to open the backup file, select the track and export the track. close the backup. Open the song file you want to use the exported track in and import the track.
First, I'll state what I understand to be the question you ask. I interpret that you have a file you have been working on, have saved that file, and have created a new file that you are working on and want to retrieve a track from the first file and place the track in the second file you are currently working on. In other words, you want to move a recorded track between one file to another.
I'm explaining the process working within Band in a Box and not RealBand.
The Steps:
For clarity, I will use names for the two files. The first file, I'll call the 'saved' file and it contains the track you want to retrieve.
The second file, which is the file you want to move the retrieved track from the 'saved' file to, I'll call the 'working' file.
Open BIAB 'saved' sgu file.
Select the track you wish to export. Select the track by clicking on the Name of the track with your mouse in the Mixer.
Right click with your mouse in the description area of the track and a drop down menu window will appear.
Click on Track Actions
From the window that appears, select 'Save Track as WAV file...'
The BB file dialog window will open and select where you want the WAV file saved. I normally save to my desktop so I can easily find the song. You can save it anywhere, just remember where you save the file.
You can close the 'save' file now. We are through with it.
Open 'working' file
If you are importing Audio, the audio file will import to the audio track. If you are importing midi, you can choose either the Melodist or Soloist tracks. I will explain how to import an audio track.
From the top toolbar, click on Audio to open a menu.
From the menu, click Import Audio (WAV,WMA,MP3,WMV)
From the BB File open dialog window Locate and select the file you exported from the 'save' file in the previous step.
The import window that opens defaults to place the imported audio at the beginning of the song. If that's correct, click OK.
The imported audio should be synced with your current file and you are ready to go.
If the audio is not synced, let us know here on the forum and we'll help you with that.
The process is similar with MIDI, instead of selecting audio, choose Melody or Soloist from the top menu.
Hi Charlie..You did understand exactly what I was going to do. I have now created 3 educational (saved.mgu working.sgu soloist.wav)files to verify what you told me. I only done the first part of your tutorial, that is, the solist "export" track from saved file to soloist.wav file. Now I do not know how to import the wav file into the working file and view on working.sgu file the soloist track notes which I wrote of saved file.
You are doing good so far. Your being able to move the soloist track from the saved file to the soloist file is the process to move the files. You can do it.
I've confused you by naming files in my explanation.
You can move tracks between any two files.
At this point, you simply open the file you created at some time and saved it. The file you saved has the track you want to move to another Biab file. You do not have to create another file and the name of this file doesn't matter. What matters is that it contains a track you want to move to another file. It can be any file. Past, present or future.
So now you've moved on and you are working on another file. You decide that a track on the file you previously saved has a track that will work with this song.
You open the backup file that contains the track you want to move. Export that track to your desktop.
Open the new file and import the exported track from your desktop. Don't let my names in my explanation confuse you. The file names I used are only so you understand difference between my two files. The names are just examples. You will be working with files you already have.
....Open the new file and import the exported track from your desktop. Don't let my names in my explanation confuse you....
Your names have not confused me. Now tell me the steps I need to follow to import in new file the saved wav track. Where do I find the menu item "track import"?
With the project file you want to import your WAV track to open:
Across the top of the screen is a tool bar: Files Edit Options Play ....
Select Audio
A menu window will open
About 2/3 down the menu list is: "Import Audio (WAV,WMA,MP3,WMV)"
Select this import Audio option
The BB File open dialog window opens. Navigate to where you exported the WAV file and select the WAV file you exported
Once you have selected the WAV File and clicked ok, a new window appears, select ok and your WAV file will be imported to the start of the Biab project and will be placed into the Audio Track.
I did as you said and I've imported the wav track. But my problem was to see his notation and still be able to work on it again. Looking better BIAB I found a solution (view screenshot). I choose to import the track (melody in my case) directly from the backup file (saved.mgu) and this passes from one file to another without any problems and without creating the wav file.
