If you use the "current tempo" setting in the Style picker, it shows you the tempo of the previous song. To show the correct tempo, you have to select the current tempo setting again, even though it was already selected.
So, to be clear: if you have the option "current tempo" selected and you go to your next song and open the style picker? It suggests styles matching the tempo of your previous tune. Not helpful, not logical.
It has this bug since the first introduction of the Style Picker. But now in biab 2017, latest update and all... it's still the case.

I'm not sure what or where the "current tempo" setting in the Style picker is. Can you explain in more detail?

Also, if you generate the newly loaded song first before using the style picker, does that make a difference?

If you are talking about the tempo that plays over the current chord sheet (this is the song loaded into BIAB), yes, it must be set for every audition of a style. It's not a bug but rather part of the search features of the Stylepicker. It allows you to either set the selected style to the exact tempo of the loaded song or to alter the tempo of the loaded song to another tempo you choose without committing to regeneration of your song.

It must be set every time because there is no way for the program to predict your choice. It defaults to the tempo of the selected style.

You can filter suggested styles by genre, feel, tempo... in this dropdown menu, you can select "tempo of current" song. And this -nice- feature doesn't work properly.

@Charlie: I am aware that Biab can't guess what tempo I would like. i take offence to this suggestion, it's rude.
Thing is, knowing that it's unreasonable to even suggest that Biab 'd have the ability to look inside my head, I think it's very reasonable to expect biab to give me suggestions based on the current tempo of the current song. This is a glitch, a bug, suggesting that the database isn't properly updated with every new song you load.

Dzjang, I meant no offense or rudeness in my reply and apologize if you took offense.

While the current configuration of the filter system is not a glitch or a bug, it's not for me to say that your suggestion to populate the filters based on the current song might be a welcomed upgrade and you should place your suggestion in the Band in a Box Wishlist. Others will then have the opportunity to support your suggestion.

I get this, but don't see it that way.

The feature already exists, but doesn't work.
You have a song, 120 BPM, and the style is not really to your liking.
You open the Style Picker with the filter already set at: filter for current tempo. The filter even shows the correct tempo, but the styles the "Picker" suggests are not filtered accordingly.
The suggestions might be a ballad or fast song, depending on the last style you selected in the picker. This means that the feature (filtering according to current tempo) already exists. Only, it doesn't function.

The Tempo filter works correctly for me (see 1st attachment).

This could be because you have requested BiaB to include your current style in the results? (2nd attachment)

VideoTrack, Is the tempo selection box in the image below the "tempo of current song" selection you and Dzjang are referring to? What did you report that isn't working with this feature if it is the "tempo of current song" box?

If I utilize the tempo search filter drop down menu features, Biab give me what I expect from the search as the following images show.

My loaded song has a tempo of 112. Opening the Stylepicker and no filters activated the selected style at default is 110. Since no style has a default of 112, 110 seems correct to me.

If I filter tempo for the current song (112) the selections start with styles at 110 tempo. Again, that's what I expect.

If I select a custom tempo (117) in my example, the styles selections start with styles at 115 since there are no styles with a 117 tempo.

Searches utilizing the tempo filters respond normally to me.

The "tempo of current song" box also responds normally for what I expect. Once you've responded if that is the correct box, I will explain how I use the box to respond to my expectations.

Hi Charlie, this is how I tested:

I loaded a song, went to Style Picker, clicked the Tempo drop-down, selected the 2nd option down in the list (Current Song tempo....[xx]) which was 85 in my case. Immediately, the tempo column showed a list that matched a tempo of 85.

I reviewed the drop-down again and noticed that the same item was still 'checked' (see image 1). I selected a style (with tempo 85) from the style picker and then closed the style picker.

I then loaded a new song, which had a tempo of 119.

I opened the style picker and noticed that the Current Song Tempo option is still checked and it now states 119, but the list is still showing styles with a tempo of 85. The value in the drop-down list has updated, but the available style selections have not (see image 2).

Does this explain OK? It's a bit more buried than the more way most of us normally use when selecting a tempo.

Regards
Trevor

I understand. This is because the tempo is associated with styles and not the loaded 'song' on the chord chart and is normal behavior for Biab. Whether it's the chord chart song that's loaded or the Stylepicker Styles, the tempo is not associated with the song on the chord chart. The tempo is associated with the style.

In the instance of where you have loaded a new song in the chord chart, and the current song tempo (119) shows in the filter as 119 and in the drop down menu as the current song tempo...(119), but the data base did not update is because StylePicker did not automatically make a tempo choice for you nor did it generate a new search. StylePicker is waiting for you to make a selection to tell it whether your interest in with a Stylea at 85 or 119 or a completely different tempo. Since the tempo is associated with Styles and the Style cannot be changed from the Chord Chart, no search has been generated. Parameters have to be set before StylePicker will generate a search, Otherwise, it only repeats the current search. If you click on the Current Tempo (119) choice in that drop down menu, the database will immediately adjust to the search results for the 119 tempo.

And, from this drop down menu, you can select any of the preset tempo's listed, or the 'any tempo' selection (which will display your entire database) or a different choice from the current song tempo to any specific tempo you choose ( Custom ). For instance, you may anticipate changing the current loaded song tempo from 119 to 112, you can adjust the search parameter at this time from 119 to 112. This where my BIAB not making a 'choice' comment comes from so hopefully I haven't again offended anyone. Again, none is intended. Because no new search has been generated, StylePicker doesn't know whether to use 85 or 119 since tempo is associated with styles and not the (loaded) current song.

You choose what will happen to your 'song' (the loaded chord chart) tempo by how you leave the StylePicker page after you've made any style and tempo adjustments. According to how you leave the page and return to your chord chart determines if no changes are made or if any changes are made to the 'song' tempo and style associated with your chord chart.

The chord chart tempo and style can stay the same and no change occurring, you can have a new style with the chord chart tempo not changing, you can have a new style and the chord chart tempo change to the new style default tempo, you can have a new style and the chord chart tempo change to a different tempo you've set in the StylePicker tempo box, or you can have a change in chord chart tempo only.

Thanks for the detailed discussion Charlie.

This could be easily fixed by simply removing the 'check-box' from the menu item. The tick in the check-box appears to the user that this option has already been selected, when if fact it has not. Clicking that item then activates the filter and the list updates. There's no need for the check-box on that menu item, and I have to guess that this interpretation is what confused the O/P.
