In RB, after creating your song, saving it (SEQ) and choosing "Render - Save all tracks to WAV files", RB creates a folder whos name is the project name plus the text "Individual Files", then adds WAV files to this folder, representing each track in the project (audio or MIDI converted to audio).

Without having to use drag-drop to the "Drop Station" (and the associated "DAW Plugin mode" to resize RB, and a drag-drop into their DAW), rather, the user can open their DAW, associate the files in "Individual Files" into their DAW project using whatever DAW browser function they have available, and save their DAW project.

Now, if the user wants to go back to RB and make a change in the project (e.g. tweak some tracks using MultiRiff, make some MIDI note changes, etc.) to tweak something, they can leave their DAW open, make the RB changes, save the SEQ, and select "Render - Save all tracks to WAV files" again, and when they alt-Tab back to their DAW, the DAW will sense that the audio files have changed, and will automatically reload them into the view of the project (at least Reaper does).

The idea being, it is a bit quicker to bypass the process of using drag-drop to the RB Drop Station, and another drag-drop into the DAW.

It all sounds wonderful - EXCEPT - (and the reason for the Wishlist post) - when you use "Render - Save all tracks to WAV files" after the initial one, it creates a NEW folder called "Individual Files (1)" instead of "Individual Files". Ouch!

It would be useful if there were an override in Prefs which would reuse the "Individual Files" folder if it exists, instead of creating the "(1)" named folder.

The risk (of course) is that you are now overwriting perfectly good WAV files in the "Individual Files" folder, so an "are you sure" type warning may also need to be added (perhaps also in Prefs before you exit the dialog).

I disagree. I prefer the present method that offers the safety of a new folder that have newly rendered files every time.

Hi Jim,

I see your point about wanting it to always generate new folders, but that is why I proposed to have an option in Prefs with an "are you sure".

Wouldn't this allow you to keep your config as-is (with the new Prefs option off), yet allow me to have new functionality (with the new Prefs option on)?

Chris, your point is both true and valid. I prefer operational consistency.

Sorry but I just don't feel there would be much benefit to adding the option in preferences.

Hi Jim,

Sounds good, no worries...

So as it stands, when you use this function in RB and it creates multiple "Individual Files (1), (2), (3)" folders, what do you do to let the DAW know something changed? And what do you do with the 'orphan' WAV files that aren't needed anymore?

Thanks,
Chris

My first step is to create a song project folder on the desktop. Everything gets saved in the folder until the project is complete. My last step in a project is to delete unwanted files and folder. In between the different folders allow me to backtrack as much and whenever I need to. The master song project folder is then copied from the desktop to two song archives and deleted.

Typically I'll have two to three master song project folders on my desktop at any point in time. I work slow and will switch between song projects as the mood strikes me.

Hi Chris,

I use the "Render - Save all tracks to WAV files" command frequently and like you, occasionally go back to the SEQ file in RB to edit a particular track.

However, each time I edit a track, I highlight it and use the "Export Highlighted Section to wav file" instead. This means I can direct the track to replace the original one, still in the original folder and without touching the other tracks.

I then save the SEQ file again with a new number, so that I can roll back if needed.

Just a slightly different take on things...

ROG.
